Explore and Test On-the-fly Functions with a Virtual Drone

Dronelink on-the-fly functions generate missions 'on-the-fly' using the connected drone position as inputs. Simply follow a step-by-step process in the mobile app to configure the mission and then fly it. No mission planning is required.

Before running these in the field, you can use Dronelink's virtual drone in the mission planner to see the setup steps and test it out.

In this article we will walk you through how to use the Adaptive Facade function as an example.

You can try these functions out on the web even before you create an account, but you'll need an account for use in the field, or for other features such as saving and editing generated missions.

 

Step 1

Open the function you want to test online with a simulated drone. Select the function either from the compare menu links above, or from the Dronelink On-the-fly repository.

Step 2

The function will open to the low code environment. To test, just select the Play (Test) button on the top menu.

Step 3

Dronelink will load the function in the simulated drone environment. Select Get Started to run through the series of steps

Step 4:

Use the simulated drone to mark the first point. Move into position and select Mark

Follow the instructions on screen, in this case we are marking the minimum safe altitude and the desired sample distance and camera angle.

 

Using the simulated drone:

Click and drag on the drone to fly it to a location, click and drag the focus point to adjust the drones heading and tilt, and edit the drones altitude by clicking on the simulated drone, or by selecting other simulated drone parameters in the preview window.

Step 5

Follow the instructions in the next step to mark the top edge of the structure. Change the simulated drone to that altitude and select Mark.

Step 6

In the next 2 steps, mark both the left and right corner of the structure by flying directly over it. This would be performed at a higher altitude in the field with camera looking down.

Step 7

Select the facade inspection flight pattern, in this case either vertical columns or horizontal.

Step 8

Select the media to capture, generally this is photos for facade inspection missions

Step 9 (optional)

Optionally select to enter advanced settings in order control overlaps, give the mission a name for future editing, to enable tasking if the mission is to be re-flown by other pilots. Advanced features the enable mission re-alignment are available for business users.

Step 10

Select Continue after seeing the input summary, and optionally go back to make any desired changes.

Step 11

Preview the mission using the simulated drone. Right click to open the simulated drone and move the drone around do see the mission flight path that was generated using the function.

Step 12

Select the Facade component to edit other basic or advanced settings. A paid account is required to edit these settings, or to move around the boundary points.
