FOV for M2P in 3D Preview

Tony Simek

Hello All,

I am trying to make some mission decisions for doing an orbit of a large property while taking pictures and would like to know which FOV is being used for just the pictures?  The HQ or the Full FOV?

Not totally sure of the question but I suspect you are going to want the Full FOV - that gives a wider angle and is generally what you are going to need for larger properties.

Well I worded it poorly Barry.  The camera itself doesn't have a setting, so what I am really wondering is...

When taking a picture, which FOV is being used?  I want to simulate the correct view and approximate the picture I am going to get.

But now that I think about it, there has to be a setting for FOV on the camera, because when mapping I get the choice.  Ok, what is throwing me off is that the FOV vs HQ settings on the actual drone are in the video section of GO4.  But for pictures, there is no such choice that needs to be made.

I may have worked myself into a a loop here.

Oh and yes, it is a larger property, so I would prefer that pictures be taken with the full FOV.  How do I insure I get that set?  Just in the drone setting only or is there a command I should be passing via the mission?

The map function does let you select a camera - just click on it

Yes, agreed.  But I am not mapping.  I am just wanting to take some pictures, but during simulation see the correct FOV so that I know if I have my subject framed correctly.  So, when previewing, my question (sorry, this is me still learning) is what FOV the drone is using so I can view the same in the simulated 3d view.

Ah!  Sorry.  I hear "big site" and my mind goes to mapping.

When doing the preview click on the three dots in the window and pick the camera you want.

If you export to Google Earth that setting will carry over there too.  Or you can manually select it when in Google Earth using this method https://vimeo.com/697968372

Hopefully that is what you were looking for.

Yes, that works Barry.  So, I see on the Mavic 2 that is has both Full FOV and HQ.  Am I correct that choosing the Full FOV in the simulator will most accurately reflect what the camera is capturing?  I believe this to be the case because I just ran a quick test around my property and the actual pics match the full fov much more than the HQ.

THANK YOU as always by the way. You are awesome!!!

Well...I only ever use the Full FOV when using my M2 but, yes, it's pretty accurate.

    Always happy to help :)
