Focus Mavic 2 Pro
Hi
I am fairly new to Dronelink and have a question regarding focusing when shooting video.
I'm filming a flyover on a golf hole. If I fly manually using the DJI Go 4 app I get sharp footage. If I create a mission in Dronelink and then set focus just before I run the mission, the footage isn't as sharp as the GO 4 app when I compare them. Not sure why?
What is the best way to have the same focus method in the GO 4 app but within Dronelink?
Many thanks
Keith

How are you setting the focus? Can you share your mission plan?
Hi Jim,
I manually take off, and then to set focus, I would tap the middle of the image or use the shutter button on the controller.
Here is my mission: https://app.dronelink.com/keith-logan/mission-speed-test/plan/csnyM8kw36HaanubVRY1
I don’t have a M2P but, I’m wondering if you remember what the last setting was in DJI app ? I believe that drone has the ability to focus Manually, Auto or continuous AF. The settings on the drone stick across apps so whatever was used the last time should be how it was set. Also I believe you should be able to change which focus mode you want manually in the DL app once it’s connected. You could add a camera command for Camera Focus Mode to ensure it’s set to what you want. I would think all the settings should work basically the same. Probably not on point but it’s just a thought. Good luck.
Also Since your new to DL I’d suggest creating Component lists with Camera commands. This way it’s really quick and easy to add a list with everything you would normally use for Photos or Videos. Once a list is created all you do is (+ add) and select include from your Repository and select which list you want. I have a few for Photos and Videos. This way an entire camera list can be placed in the plan without needing to add every command on every plan each time. Hope this is helpful. Enjoy.
Hi Mike, I do remember. I have the focus set up as Auto in the DJI app. That was my understanding also i.e. what settings are in place on the DJI app would be replicated in Dronelink.
I haven't used a Component List yet, but that makes great sense! I will try that! If I were to create one that only had, say, the ISO, Shutter Speed, and Aperature set, would it keep all other camera settings as they are in the DJI app? i.e. colour balance, sharpness et
Thanks
I use a M2P regularly and almost never have issues.
Now...when I say almost never, I occasionally have an issue with the M2P and the P4P where if the drone is facing something close (say a car) when it is started it will sometimes focus on that and then never seem to correct even if it is set to auto focus.
Note, this can happen with DL or using Go4. As such, when I am shooting now I pay attention to that and, once it is in the air, I tap to focus on something very far away.
That seems to solve it for me.
Hi Barry Houldsworth,
Thanks for your comments. Can I ask how you set focus in DL? Do you get in position and tap focus before running the mission, or do you have a list command that sets auto focus?
Cheers
I actually do both!
I have a component that sets up the camera with all the things I need. I actually have different versions of that for different clients since they often have their own preferences for things like frame rate, etc.
Then, usually, when it is flying to the first waypoint, I tap on the screen.
Thanks Barry. I have tried tapping the screen in the DL app but never hear the focus noise that I get when doing the same on the DJI app, not sure why?
DL doesn’t have many of the voice prompts or sounds which DJI app may have.
Does DL have focus peaking that can be enabled to see what is in focus?
Sorry - I should have been clearer. If I'm worried about focus I will take off, switch to GO4, focus, and switch back.
I don't believe DL has focus peaking - or at least I have not found it. That would be a good addition.
Thanks Barry, cheers
