Mapping

PN

Further to my post on mapping and the limit on the size of the map.

Just tried a mission where after creating the map all the warnings displays are ignored during planning stage.

During actual mission all the previous warning which makes dronelink so annoying pop out again like "drone to far off course" and the rest.

I was enjoying using the app when the issue od "Drone to far off course" was resolved with "motion delayed" option was introduced.

But with this current update to the app instead of getting better it got worse.

Is there a roll back or where can i get the previous APK as I feel the current one is useless for me.

Very disappointed that i have to resort to my standby app (Drone Harmony) as I was at the location with no internet access and cant change anything online.

Regards.

Can you please share a link to the mission that was good in the previous version, and then share a link to the mission that was bad in the current version?

    https://app.dronelink.com/ng-chin-poh/mapping/plan/wSYQZX5hhWw1n4WsyiGQ/bmApnsmSX0oVkPh9KYTx this was ok previously.

https://app.dronelink.com/ng-chin-poh/mapping/plan/dIPIorrTGKT0lKxA6uBZ/AuPI75h00GleqW1C5wOL I had problem with this mapping mission, all the previous messages that make dronelink not usable for me came out today.

I was enjoying dronelink since Jan 2022 when motion delayed was added and only get a notification warning for large map although at that time creating a mapping mission about 100 hectares was difficult.

Now dronelink is forcing us to fly higher if we want larger map even if it not legal for us to do so.

Anybody who does mapping to swap 6 batteries for a single mission is not a big deal.

I only use dronelink for mapping purpose and since I sign up until Jan 2022 i did not use it at all since it gives me multiple error message and was advice to fly at a slower speed which makes the work unbearable.

January 2022 till before your last update was a good period for me although mapping mission is like 1 or 2 every 2 to 3 months.

So please do not place unnecessary restrictions on us in the name of safety as flying higher do not help. Your terrain follow is awesome for me but with the size of the map you are forcing on us makes this app useless for small timers like me.

    Regards.

    https://app.dronelink.com/ng-chin-poh/mapping/plan/wSYQZX5hhWw1n4WsyiGQ/bmApnsmSX0oVkPh9KYTx this was ok previously.

Can you please send links from this tab, so we can see the actual results of the missions:

Now dronelink is forcing us to fly higher if we want larger map even if it not legal for us to do so.

We are not forcing you to fly higher. If it is not legal to fly any higher then the other suggestion is to split the map into multiple mission plans.

So please do not place unnecessary restrictions on us in the name of safety

To be clear (per the other thread), the new limitation was put in place because of performance and user experience considerations, not safety. Also, per the other thread, we considering letting users do large maps anway:

all the previous messages that make dronelink not usable for me came out today

We did not make any changes to the mapping algorithm between 3.3.2 and 3.4.0. The only change in 3.4.0 is the new error message that disallows large maps, so if you were able to run the exact same mission previously and now it gives errors (such as drone too far off course), it is more likely the the environmental conditions have changed between the two runs (such as higher winds the second time).

Anybody who does mapping to swap 6 batteries for a single mission is not a big deal.

Seeing that you are on a hobbyist plan, what is the hobbyist use case for such large maps?

Not to be rude how I use dronelink I guess it is not for the developer of the app to question the point I am making is that you said before 99% have no need for large maps but some do. I am asking beside performance issues which I don't face what are the justification for such restriction. For today's flight I have not even stated the mission it just reach the point when it is about to start the mission when drone to far off course appears and the rest of the warning. I regret not doing a screen recording of today's flight. Anyway I do not intend to get into lengthy messages where I have to justify myself. If your app is not up to mark than for me no more recommendations from me. Good day to you.

how I use dronelink I guess it is not for the developer of the app

In general, we do not want to place limitations on how you can use Dronelink. In fact, we welcome it when users push the limits of what we have created and use it in new and innovative ways. There are two exceptions to this:

    1. Using the app in a way that might cause our algorithms to crash your drone.

    2. Using app in a way that violates your license agreement:

I am asking beside performance issues which I don't face

With respect to exception #1 above, if you have a designed a map that we currently consider to be "large", and you are using a mobile device that can handle this map, and you want to take responsibility for the algorithm potentially failing, then we agree with you - go ahead and do it. That is why we are having an active conversation across these two threads about how to best handle this situation and let the user take responsibility. We cannot make changes like this without thoughtful and careful consideration so please be understanding and reasonable with your expectations on how fast we can respond.
