Flight Mode Settings - Flying okay in Cine and Sport.

George K

I saw a comment the other day in a post saying "You shouldn't be able to fly in Cine mode". I knew this, and basically have not tried to ever switch the controller. Some time ago I accidentally had the controller in Cine, and the program would not start. Recently I did that again, and it started flying. I quickly switched to Normal mode, which immediately halted the flight.

So, today I flew 5 short missions for another reason, but while doing so I intentionally put the controller in Cine mode. Well, the entire "path" flight flew just fine. Hmmm... I ran the second mission, a map, and it too flew just fine. I completed the 3rd mission another path, and it flew fine. I ran the first map again, but put the controller in Sport mode. It too flew just fine.

So, while that is fine with me since it causes no apparent issues. I thought I would point it out.

DJI Mini 2, iPhone Xs Max., using the standard controller "RC231"

I upload into AirData, and then downloaded the CSV file. It shows that it goes into joystick mode (17) shortly after AutoTakeoff (11), then P-GPS (6).

It also shows the problem with iPhones when the temperatures start to go up! The automatic screen dimming is terrible. (Sport mode photo which was just minutes after the Cine mode.) Which is not a DL problem, just a gripe.

Hey George. I know I’ve forgotten to switch from Tripod/ Cine mode maybe a couple times and it worked also. Not sure why and if it will cause any issues. It didn’t seem to matter as the missions I ran worked fine. I know that if in any other mode then normal though my Obstacle avoidance won’t work just as in DJI App with my MA2. For me it doesn’t matter for the reason that DL instructs us to put in Normal mode so I do. Enjoy…

I suppose it is possible that the DJI SDK has changed recently, but it has required P-GPS for years to enable virtual stick.

No problem here, just thought if there was a reason the other modes should not be able to work you may want to know.

I have an Air 2S.  What Mode "should" I be in?   If I am in Cine Mode - is it overruled by the Dronelink mission settings?   If I am in Cine or Normal mode will my DJI obstacle avoidance still work effectively?
