Mission Video Size

Joseph Burger

Sometimes when running a mission, the video is split into two files. For example the first part of the flight became a file of 5 minutes long and 3.5 Gigs, and the remaining part was on a second video of 25 seconds and 300 MB. Is there a time limit or a file size limit when running a mission?

This is functionality baked in to DJI's firmware.

Hi Joseph. Just some additional info. It won’t matter because when you add the videos into an editing app it will look like one long video. There is no delay or stutter as long as place them in the proper order. I’ve had 3 to 4 segments and have had no issues. Even the DJI App works the same as Jim stated which is why. Enjoy.

Blame it on Bill Gates! Back in 1996 Microsoft developed FAT32 file system. It is limited to a single file size of 4GB. Since it became the de facto standard, nothing much to do about it. Obviously there are methods that can make much larger files, NTFS for Microsoft, APFS for iOS, etc. But nothing as universally understood. (Trying to change something like this typically gets results about like the USA trying to "Go Metric", back in 1975, it was put into law even, and you see how that worked out!)
