Terrain Follow
I was just getting ready to purchase the Elite version when I noticed it does not come with Terrain Follow(?) I saw a video on youtube that stated you needed the Elite to use it (but it appears not an option for the hobbyist). This is a deal breaker for me as I live near the Mountains and Terrain is a huge factor in doing this. Is there truly no option as this is just for a hobby and too expensive to purchase a business license for a hobby.

The plans are described as they are titled, where Professional plans are for commercial use, and Hobbyist plans are for non-commercial use. However, this thread is about hobbyists whom are unable to use Dronelink for non-commercial purposes. That alone could be the reason for confusion. An asterisk next to the “Hobbyist” title with a footnote would make it clear for even a beginner to understand: “Terrain Following is considered a professional feature, and is only available with Professional plans. Terrain Following/AGL is typically required for processing and modeling uneven terrain”
I dunno, you got the version of that table from 3 years ago when this thread was started?
Choosing which features to go into each plan is not arbitrary, and it’s also not based on the cost to develop the features, but rather it is based on the value to the user. The reality is the vast majority of maps in the system to not require terrain follow, but there is a small subset for certain scenarios where businesses and power users need it, and in those cases we believe it is worth every penny for those users. If it isn’t worth it to you, that’s fine. We wish you well if you can find similar functionality elsewhere at a lower price.
Not sure what you are referring to. This is the current pricing page:
Mike's statement is true, if you are a business you must use a Professional plan, but the Professional plans are also for power users that need access to higher level / more valuable features, even for non-business use cases.
Yeah, I see that it's listed correctly. I'd go check out the wayback machine but for whatever reason your website doesn't work right there.
But I'm certain there used to be a table that listed terrain follow in the hobbyist section. But that doesn't matter, its your business and you can run it how you want.
But it is the definition of arbitrary that a hobbyist that happens to live in a more hilly area and wants to fly routes where they live gets a worse experience than another hobbyist who happens to live in an area with flatter geography.
And just my opinion here as a hobbyist myself, when you have only one feature on the professional side of the paywall that I'm interested in, that suggests that its on the wrong side of the fence.
If it is that important as a Hobbyist to map one or two locations utilizing Terrain follow for fun then you can purchase a starter plan and just use it for one month and it’s only $24. You can then fly many mapping missions at those locations over the month period and get it done. It is a completely separate plan, not an upgrade so you will still have your Hobbyist plan to use. Good luck. Enjoy.
