Mission Verification mode is a game-changer for me

Mick Porter

I created my first test mission on the PC, low and slow at a local park, which took all of 3 minutes to create, sitting in my office.

Then I walked over to that park and executed, first a mission verification run, and then the regular flight plan.  I am sold on the utility of this product!

BACKGROUND: One of my issues flying the Air 2s is that it replaces an Air 2 that I lost on top of a local basilica, where it sits to this day as part of the basilica's permanent collection.  If I had been flying forward or if the Air 2 had side sensors, I'd still own it, but alas, no.

I had DJI insurance too, but I would have had to hand them a broken drone, which I could not do because I couldn't get to it.  And they were unsatisfied with just pictures and GPS coordinates.

As a result, I have been really anxious flying its replacement, fearful of losing this one too, and that's just no way to live. So when I learned that with Dronelink you could fly a verification mission first, I was thrilled.

This is not mission simulation mode, when you're sitting in your office flying a virtual drone through Google Earth space, which is also great, don't get me wrong.

But mission verification mode involves flying the drone itself, flying forward only, with full obstacle avoidance engaged, and is an order of magnitude better.  It gives me confidence that when I go home I will still have my drone with me.

Watching it execute its maneuvers, even though I knew obstacle avoidance was engaged, was still pretty hairy because at that distance away, I can't tell how close the drone is to things in the background.  But once it's flown its mission verification properly, I know the path and the way-points are just fine and my confidence shoots up like a homesick angel.

Thanks Dronelink.  I'm really enjoying this product.

Congrats!  This is a feature that a lot of people are not aware of and, in cases where you are not sure, it's super useful.

And I feel your pain.  I lost a drone back in 2014 and it was a gut-wrenching experience back then.

You can read more about that here if interested: https://houldsworth.wordpress.com/2015/01/10/drone-down/

On a plus note, it did lead me to build drones, which is a whole new thing - there is something amazing about seeing something you built from scratch take off and fly.

    Welcome to the club!

    Hey Mick,

    Thanks for sharing!

Sorry to hear about your previous loss, although great to hear that you can fly with less anxiety having used this feature!

We would be grateful if you left a 5-star review in the App Store! (iOSAndroid)

    Happy Flying!
    Best,
    Jacob
