Hobbyist vs. Professional plan — academic research use
Hello,
I’m planning to use Dronelink to plan photogrammetry mapping missions with a DJI Mavic 2 Pro, during a scientific research campaign in Antarctica.
The context: I’ll be flying as part of an institutional campaign organized by CONICET (Argentina’s national scientific research council) and the Instituto Antártico Argentino. The imagery collected will be used for a PhD thesis by one of the researchers on the team. There is no commercial use or direct payment for this work.
Given this falls between academic/non-profit use and an institutional government-affiliated context, I wanted to check with you directly: would a Hobbyist plan be appropriate for this use case, or do you recommend a Professional plan?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Yasmin Soledad Gutierrez. It’s been several days so I’ll try to help. I don’t work for Dronekink but I’m fairly sure you will need a Professional plan. It’s a Government agency which is a public agency so it should be required. Also with a Professional plan you will have far more advanced features which you will more than likely need especially when running Mapping missions.
Take a look at the pricing structure between the Hobbyist Elite Plan which is required for the Mavic 2 Pro and the Professional Starter or Growth plans. Far more advanced features with the professional plans. Hope that helps.
