What type of missions count as virtual stick?

Brandon Thompson

I have been looking around and I can't see anything that explains this clearly. I understand the concepts of the virtual stick vs onboard features, but not which mission types use which feature.

If I'm setting waypoints on the computer or the app and creating a mission, and then telling it to fly that mission, it should be doing that using virtual stick, right? Or is it automatically trying to upload to onboard?

I ask because I'm using an Air 2S which has no onboard, and I'm getting an error when I try to run my mission.

I see the option to use on-the-fly planning, but that seems less precise to me. Is that the only waypoint option that uses virtual stick?

This was the test mission I created earlier. Is this compatible?

I deleted an earlier post about this because I thought I had made a stupid mistake and didn't want to waste any more time, but after correcting that, I'm still having the same problem. (The execution failed to execute).

Jim McAndrew this is the one you were discussing with me earlier in the previous thread.

Is there a message when you get the error? Is the controller set to "Normal"?

It looks like that mission should run okay. So it's something in the communication with the drone itself. Could try starting DJI Fly, make sure everything is working okay. Try downloading the plan first? Will any of the standard missions work for you? Like trying to fly the "Circle"? Then try your mission in Dronelink again? Sorry but that's about all I can offer you. Hopefully others that are more knowledgeable will pitch in.

I just loaded the plan with my MA2 and no issues. It looks like the plan is already loaded on your screenshot so not sure why that error message is popping up. Did you dismiss the error and start the mission. I’d try again and see if it launches and flies.

Also. All your mission are virtual stick since the drone can’t load Onboard waypoints. All that means is the DL software is sending commands to the controller in real time just as if the pilot was controlling it. This is the way DL works for drones which don’t support Onboard loading of plans. Good luck.

To be clear, all DL missions are virtual stick by default, unless you explicitly use a DJI Waypoints component:

Or convert a plan with non-DJI Waypoints components to DJI Waypoints:

Ok thanks Jim, that must have been the problem. I'll see if I can get it to work with regular waypoints.

My MA2 loaded the plan and worked so not sure why the A2S wouldn’t. Didn’t seem to be a DJI waypoint mission. Maybe I’m wrong.

I am also a A2S user and please try to use only the "Green" ones to plan the missions and do not use the "Orange" one. Then everything should be fine.
