Gimbal Orientation Failed

NJG Visuals

Just recently got Drone link and worked flawlessly on the first few maps but got the Gimbal Orientation Failed message today.

Using a Mavic Air 2s, happened many times, tried restarting everything multiple times but didn't fix it.

I've normally seen this when the drone is trying to take a 360 and the ability to point the camera up 30deg has been turned off.  I don't think that should be a factor on a mapping mission but, maybe, just try making sure that ability is turned on and try again?

Also, make sure that the gimbal lock is not still on the drone.

If not either of those, at what point in the mission does it fail?  Straight away, at the transition to the 2nd map?

Which app version ? I don’t have an A2S but there were some gimbal issues initially. I thought most were corrected but not sure. There is a new version 3.3.1 which just came out in the Apple App Store if using IOS device. I believe it should be out for Android devices too. Maybe download the newest version and see if it helps.

Barry knows a lot more about mapping then me but, I don’t see anything in the plan setup which may cause an issue. I’m curious if it happens at the same point. Like at destination 2 or somewhere else.

Yea it happens at the start point every time. Like it takes offs flies to the start point, twitches the gimbal a bunch then says gimbal orientation failed. Using android and tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app so it'll be on the latest version. The gimbal cover is definitely off and the gimbal itself is mechanically fine cause everything works on dji fly just fine. Im thinking it may be a bug with downloading the mission for offline access possibly as with all the other recent successful missions I've done I had wifi. Could this be it?

If the plan is loading and launching then you have either a Wi-Fi, cellular connection or you downloaded for off line use already. The app won’t allow you to load a mission without a connection and it will indicate “No Connection” in the app unless it was downloaded for off line. Check all the DJI app settings. Make sure it isn’t in FPV mode as it may be the issue. If not then Jim will need to assist you further.

Thing is it worked totally fine 2 days ago and other than making the new mission nothing else has changed, havent even gone into the dji app recently (other than yesterday after the mission repeatedly failed) so thinking it must be some setting in the mission which I accidentally changed

With technology you never know what can happen though. I don’t see anything in the plan which looks wrong on map pr even the approach. Set to -90 gimbal pitch on first map and -85 pitch on second map which should work. Hopefully it’s not a drone gimbal problem. Only other suggestion is to refresh the firmware on both drone and controller with DJI Assistant 2 for Mavic software. It can’t hurt and at least you may rule out a firmware issue. I’ve had a couple strange things happen over the last 1-1/2 or so and after trying everything else I refreshed firmware, calibrated the IMU and compass and it worked. Sorry I can’t help more.

Algoods Mike, thanks for your help so far. Might try the firmware update, as there is one available.

Please post if that fixes your problem - there is someone on the Facebook page that seems to be having a similar issue with an Air 2s.

Looks like the firmware update has fixed it. Gonna do a couple more tests but so far so good.

Glad to hear it worked. Sometimes it’s the simplest things. Enjoy. 😃
