Reverse Map Mission (2 drones in one mission)

Patrick Purcell

Is it possible to take a map mission then:

a) Quickly duplicate it as version 2

b) But also have it planned to be flown in reverse from version 1?

In theory, if two drones are flying this same map at the same time, one flying version 1, one flying version 2, could they basically meet in the middle of the map (one drone starting at the beginning, one drone starting at the end) and have the mission be completed in half time? Say two pilots are together, one finishes his maps first and then helps the other pilot complete their last mission. Then should be able to merge the photos from the 2 drones later and still have the full mission for the mission they split?

You may get a more knowledgeable answer, but I think if you create the first map, save it, the move the approach point on that map to the other end of the plan you can achieve this. Then just save it with a new name. Takes about 10 seconds.

BUT watch the take off locations the two people use. I believe the flight altitude will be determined by the starting location. (Unless maybe you have terrain following ability) So basically they need to be standing close to each other, (or at least the take off locations) depending on the terrain of course.

A suggestion. I just left a comment on another post on how to do this similar procedure so everything is lined up with correct overlaps. Create the first half of the map then copy it to clipboard. Then paste and move it right next to the other with boundary lines lined up and overlapped. This will now give a complete map of the area with correct overlap for photos and look like one map. You can move the destinations on both of them so they start on let’s say the left side of the map and fly to the right. When all setup just make another copy of this two part map. Then remove the second map and save as Map 1. Open second two part map and remove the first map and save as Map 2. Now you have two perfectly lined up maps to cover the area. They can be flown at the same time from same take-off location and not interfere. This is actually really easy to do and I’m sure you can figure out my explanation. You can do this same procedure for much larger maps so it is cut down to smaller ones which can help with large map processing issues. This is a great way to make sure the area is properly mapped with correct overlap for the photos.

    Good luck and Enjoy. Mike….
