Orbit mission, jerky video footage with Mavic Air 2S (using beta)

Nelvick Berrios

I know this is a beta version for IOS and the Mavic Air 2S. Also I know the DJI SDK is pretty premature for the Air 2S as well in IOS.

I really appreciate the hard work from Dronelink to make this working. I want just to report the video looks jerky when an orbit mission is selected for the Mavic Air 2S. I decreases the speed to 10Mph trying to help with the situation but still looks the same.

Also to change from mission to another mission I had to close the app and re-open the app in order to be able to load the mission successfully after finish another mission.

I am including a link with the video. https://youtu.be/i4ovB3Fb1dQ

I’m sure Jim is frustrated seeing the same questions about smoothness every week. With that said, there are so many factors to include DJI firmware issues. DL has worked extremely hard to try and correct the main issue but still comes back to the same conclusion. They added rotation and engagement parameters in the settings which may help in conjunction with all the other possible factors.

I may be wrong but, from what I’ve seen the A2S seems to have more of a problem then the MA2 which I have. Not sure why but overall my experience with Orbits and Paths have worked very well compared to what I’ve seen from others. Again, not sure why. Good luck and enjoy.

I just tested the same thing with Litchi and is even worse with Litchi. Much more Jerky.

After reading carefully everything posted in the link that Jim posted here is my hardware.

Drone: Mavic Air 2S last firmware
    Device: Ipad Mini gen 5
    Software: Last IOS version
    Software: Dronelink beta (last version)

I did the same test with my Mavic 2 Pro having a perfect outcome.
Do dronelink use onboard missions in the normal orbits by default or needs to be converted to DJI onboard missions?

I am still trying to figure it out. When you use the Go4 app and select a POI and orbit does a perfect job as well. I am not sure if this is selecting coordinates and orbit around it or is this done by a screen object in the camera?

The A2S as well as all the newer drones are not capable of onboard waypoints. Virtual Stick approach is how these other drones work. The M2P was the last drone DJI made with that capability which was about 4 years ago. The M2P will work better for a few reasons. Size, weight and if using onboard waypoints it will be better. Slow down the speed to about 6 to 7 mph with the A2S. Also I can see obvious strong winds in the video in a couple spots which will make a huge difference.

    Mike.

I understand about the virtual stick is only for any drone that uses the fly app compatible. The question with the M2P drone link has onboard missions as an addon or part of the business version of dronelink.

If I am using the normal missions for orbit with the Mavic 2 Pro and dronelink. The mission by default will be using virtual sticks and no onboard missions are my understanding unless I create the mission with onboard DJI missions or convert it from a regular mission to DJI onboard mission. Is this correct Jim? At this point is using Virtual Sticks with the M2P or not?

The trust is the M2P with normal missions does a great job in orbits. I understand is a heavier drone but the Air 2S is not that far.

I will try to repeat the same mission again with both drones with 0 winds at 5-7 Mph.

Ok Nelvick. Yes, Virtual stick is used on all drone models unless you specifically create or convert a Virtual Joystick plan to an Onboard Plan. So with your M2P you can do either way as long as your DL plan has includes that capability. According to their pricing guide, all business plans have Onboard capability and I believe the Hobbyist Elite plan does too. Hope this helps. Enjoy.

    Mike,

What I mean is there is a difference from the drone responding to virtual sticks and the drone doing the mission from the Onboard mission. The onboard mission obviously has the advantage has all the information from the mission loaded and there will not be any delay. The M2P in the normal missions  (virtual sticks) has no problem with jerky. 200ms will be 5 inputs per seconds is this correct? if you see the video the jerky part is separate for 1.5 to - 2 seconds in difference so the drone will have the opportunity to make corrections 5 times every 1 second. Does not make sense.

Again the Mp2 has no problem when utilizing virtual sticks. Not blaming DL. Is just that there most to be something else in those SDK. I know Litchi has the same issue and even worse.

The issue is in DJI's gimbal firmware, as concluded in this thread.

Sorry but I was responding to your question which is Yes….

Is this correct Jim?

The links which were provided explain the main issue which is DJI as Jim stated.
