airdata and orbits

With appearances in mind Is there an ideal angle to enter and exit an orbit? Are airdata uploads a function of DL or the drone itself regardless of the app running? Thanks

Not sure I understand the first question.  But for Airdata uploads, they are automatic once you have it set up

First question is for best looking video(movements turns etc) is there a desired entry and exit angle to the orbit. Second, Does the drone upload to airdata regardless of which app you use ie; DL, DJI fly,  litchi?

Add airdata details in the integrations section of the web app and then it will automatically upload, without need for anything else outside of Dronelink.

Airdata will upload any flights with DL and DJI app. Just make sure Airdata is setup for your DJI account and you Also have integration for Airdata enable in the DL web app. The Orbits I usually go into with a straight path and start the Orbit without rotation. It looks better in my opinion. This way it will be continuous and smooth and not needing to rotate any amount of degrees.I also setup the gimbal so when it gets to the Orbit it will be at the same gimbal pitch as the Orbits and looks better. This way instead of pitching down just before the Orbit starts it’s already the same. A few ways to set gimbal set before it gets to Orbit and takes some adjusting but works great. Some may set it up differently but that’s how I create them.

I’m sure I can look through some of my plans and find a few and with Paths to Orbits and send a link if you want to see how I set up them up. Let me know.

Thanks Barry and Mike, looks like airdata is tied to DJI account and not a function of a particular app? Mike if you get around to it that would be helpful seems like older people learn better by seeing on some things :) I already figured out the gimble tilt issue I use markers.

It is tied to your DJI account but you need to make sure the Airdata integration is enabled in the web app. This way DL flights will be sent to Airdata also. Otherwise only flights with the DJI app will be recorded.

I agree, I’m older and have always preferred to see things to get better understanding.

I shorten this up a bit so it has just the parts with Orbits and not so long since it’s just a reference for you. Here is one which I have path going into and out of an Orbit. Nothing is perfect but overall I think it looks better without all the rotation before and after and Orbit. I can even get the start of rotation to look almost perfect from starting point. Maybe it will give you some ideas which you can use. As I always say, everyone has their way of doing things. I like it this way. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mike I see the approach, never thought of that, works great. Only problem is to get in/out perpendicular to orbit, I'm getting it close but not perfect yet.

It takes some practice but over time I figured out how to set the path to destination and vice versa by moving the waypoint or destination left or right to line up. Several ways to make it work which I’ve tried and it will perform roughly the same as far as continuity. Moving the second destination across the Orbit and then into a path will work too and a bit easier than placing it right on top of first destination as I have it. The reason I place the second destination right on top of first is so when it stops the Orbit rotation it pauses there at same spot and goes right into the path and doesn’t need to travel to the second destination point and stop, then proceed on path. Looks smother and continuous this way to me. I use my iPad so using with my finger to drag the points is a bit easier for me then using a mouse in my opinion. I just zoom all the way in to get best look at the lining up of points. As I always say, everyone has their way of creating and setting up plans so it’s up to the pilot to decide what works best for them. A lot of hours creating and testing many different setups. Good luck and Enjoy Sir…

Forgot to mention the other reason why I place the second destination on top of first. With this way when it goes into the path the gimbal will start pitching up slower and smooth when using a maker. The interpolation allows it to start before the actual marker so when it gets to the marker it is at the pitch you want. When using the destination to change the pitch it snaps to the gimbal pitch much quicker. Definitely too much time on my hands being retired. Lol. 🤪

Mike here's a setup I made but in a random location. The slight jerks at entry and exit of orbit are the best I can do. I've tried everything I can think of but can't fully eliminate them. Would appreciate any suggestions or modifications. Thanks

Wow. For a first time with all the transitions from that many Paths to Orbits it looks great. A couple look almost perfectly smooth. There are some to cleanup if you want it better but overall you’ve got the idea down and did a great job. If it was an actual plan you we’re going to fly I’d try to get a few of them better but that’s so close and nothing is always perfect. If you set up an actual plan your going to fly and do need help let me know. I’ll be glad to assist

Keep in mind when it twitches left or right a bit then the path going into or from the Orbit needs to be slightly dragged over just a tad opposite of the twitch. So twitching right means to move the path a tad left and vice-verse. When I zoom in I rotate the map so I’m looking at it in the direction the drone is flying. Easier for me to keep it straight my head this way.

    Enjoy Norman.
