constant recording of video

Is there a way to get continuous video recording from start to finish of a mission that overrides the components? I daisy chained a number of orbits directly to one another and the recording stops and restarts between each orbit in spite of setting the " add automatic capture" settings off. Thanks

First, remove all camera commands from your mission.  Then add camera commands as components to the mission plan.  Start with camera stop capture, then add camera video mode, you can add resolution if you want, then start capture command.  At the very end of your plan add a camera stop capture command.

You can check out the mission preview and it will show a continuous capture 1 video for the mission.

Hi Norman. Yes, as stated above you can place the camera commands at very top/ beginning of plan before anything else. The Video will start recording just after take-off and the execution of plan and will continue throughout until you place a stop capture and end. I use video this way a lot and then edit out anything in between if needed.

I suggest creating a “component list” with common camera settings like, IOS, Shutter, White Balance, File format, Resolution, Frame Rate etc. Then you can just add component and select the one from your Repo list. It makes it easy to place all the camera settings into a plan rather then needing to set every single command every time.

If it’s starting and stopping recording between each Orbit then there is something in there which is causing it to do that.

Can you share the plan ?

Also, How is your drone working now ?

Hi Mike, Link below. It seems to be ok with no residual problems after taking apart and drying out. Still need bottom plate which was cracked but not available yet. Thanks

Each one of your orbits has a separate video capture; you need to delete them and then add the camera components at the beginning of your list.  Each one will add to the end so just use the arrows to move up until you get them all in place, with a final stop capture at the end.  The preview will then a continuous video.

Alternatively, you can add them all to a list and set automatic capture on the list.

Not sure what you mean. I disabled the auto capture and added list with three commands at beginning but it doesn't seem to work? Thanks

You need to set your camera mode to video rather than photo.

Got it, also won't work without capture stop at the end. Thanks Dave

If you ever want to break up a long video into smaller files you can add camera commands stop capture, start capture between components.  From my own tests the preview will show continuous but in flight will stop and start to make 2 files.

I think you will really like creating and using list for camera commands. It is very handy and much quicker to select from your Repo list and place it on your plan. This way whenever you want to shoot photos or video you won’t need to enter every camera command on each new plan. I’m sure you can figure out how to create and build a component list but if you need assistance someone can help. Good luck Norman. Glad to hear the drone is still functional. 😃

Also when just adding a start video command without any other camera settings, DL will use whatever camera settings which were last used unless you manually set them before the flight. So the IOS, Shutter, White Balance, Resolution etc. need to be checked. This is why using a list is a good idea. You won’t forget to change to the proper settings before mission.

Hi David. It should not be showing continuous capture in mission preview if set up properly. Here is a plan I created in about 3 minutes to just to show one easy way to create it and how it should look between components with the setup and in Mission preview. No continuous video shown. Everyone has their way to set up their plans and there can be many ways to create them. Sharing missions makes it much easier to see what is actually being attempted and assist. If you don’t want to share your plan or change the way you set them up then that’s ok. It’s your choice. Just trying to help which may assist in creating future plans. Dronelink is a very complex app which can perform so many different functions and be set up so many different ways. I try to learn more all the time so it will make it easier for me to create my plans without all the extra commands or functions which may not be needed. Over a year now and 1,000 minutes plus of automated flights using DL and I’m still learning. Good luck and Enjoy…

Mike, but it does.  I did mission flight tests to confirm whether on not a wait command was needed. It did stop start video recording with and without a wait in between.  Preview was different.  Why not give it a try yourself both ways to confirm?

Ok. I’m sure it does but then your losing the ability to see in the mission preview where the video starts and stops. As I stated, everyone has their way to set up a plan. This way works perfectly, fast and indicates the proper recording in mission preview so I know exactly where it starts and stops. This is a very common way to set up a plan of this type of plan. You can also set the “immediate component” at the destination to start capture if you prefer but again, there can be many different ways to set it up. It’s all up to the pilot but I try to make it simpler and easier with the least amount of commands to work properly. Its just one example of a way to set up a video recording quickly. Enjoy….

Thanks Mike and Dave and Jim. This group is a gold mine of info for a newby. I appreciate differing opinions and the resulting solutions, there really is more than one way to skin a Drone :) and Mike you're right I played with lists and they are really fast and useful I didn't have a need for them and was a little intimidated by them until this situation.

What controls rate at which drone rotates to new heading? I'd like a slow smooth rotation rather than a snap. Same with gimbal orientation.

Go to your Settings options for rotation rate control.  I usually set mine to 5 degree/sec.  (That doesn't control the snap heading when a new path is started.)

For the other one go to your Path and show parameters.  There is one called Rotation Mode and change that from heading to velocity.  I haven't specifically tried it but I think it's the right place to keep the heading from snapping the new plan heading rather than a smooth move.
