Feature Request For Manual Gimbal Pitch Override / Control

Kgaudineer

The Gimbal Override is a nice feature for sure, however the feature addresses if you manually/purposefully override the gimbal pitch after the mapping mission has begun.  There is a potential for a problem with this new feature, and that is, what happens if the gimbal pitch was changed unintentionally/accidentally?   If the gimbal is accidentally moved to something like  -50 this can ruin an entire mapping mission because the gimbal will not reset to the same position (-90) as when the mission started.  I like the manual override for the gimbal, however, would it be possible to add an enhancement to this feature?  The enhancement would be something like the ability to add 'Markers' along the mapping path where the operator could set the gimbal pith to -90 ensuring that the gimbal is always pointed straight down in case of accidental change.  This would be beneficial to Android users since gimbal pitch isn't visible on their screens like it is for the IOS device screens.

Sounds like it would just be easier to give you a toggle to disable the feature.

I will try and give an explanation based on my most recent experience but @Jim McAndrew may have a better explanation.

The gimbal override feature was a new feature that was recently added (I think) and here is a link to the page explaining this new feature that @Jim McAndrew provided to me after I posted a question in the General Discussion forum.

    Link to Gimbal Override

When a mapping component is started the gimbal on the drone is pointed straight down (-90 to Horizon) after the approach has completed, and it couldn't be changed while the mission was being flown.  This new feature would allow the operator to manually override this setting and change the gimbal pitch ( for example to a -50) while the mapping mission is in progress.  If the mission is paused, like for a battery swap, and then resumed the mission will continue with the gimbal's previously set position (-50).

In my scenario, I had created a simple mapping mission that would take approx 10 minutes to complete.  This was a mission to gather photos for a 2D model.  While my drone was flying the mission I somehow moved the jog wheel that controlled the gimbal and for the remainder of the mission, all photos were taken with the gimbal at the incorrect angle. The end result was a failed mission.  When I tried to stitch my photos together the job would fail because some pictures were with the gimbal at -90 and others were taken with the gimbal at some other angle.  So the whole mission needs to be redone.
