Waypoint with KMZ - battery replacement
Good morning.
I have an Air 3s and would like to program a waypoint mission by importing a KMZ generated by DroneLink (mapping). My question is, if two or more batteries were needed to complete the mission, would the drone resume work to complete the mission once the battery is replaced, or would it restart from the beginning?

Dronelink will resume exactly where it stopped automatically.
This video shows the whole process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qstOG82gOp8
I think he’s talking about uploading a KMZ in DJI Fly, in which case it does not since it’s not even Dronelink managing the mission at that point.
Sorry! I just realized you said you were using an Air 3S. Since that is onboard waypoints only I believe you will have to choose which waypoint to return to when starting the mission.
Watch the video in this article and around 6:25 you will see where it starts the mission: https://support.dronelink.com/hc/en-us/articles/4410621290387-Onboard-DJI-Waypoint-Missions-Convert-and-Export-to-KMZ
You will see there is an option that says Start Point. You can click on that before hitting Go and select the waypoint you want it to continue from. I would suggest you choose the one that it recently passed instead of the next one otherwise you will have a gap.
Hope that helps!
You will be better off running smaller mapping missions. Converted Large maps in the DJI Fly app can run into issues like not loading due to the size, not executing and possibly fail at some point. Since the Air 3 series drones can run at least about 30 minutes on one battery that means you could run roughly a 75 acre normal pattern mapping mission which is very large. So 2 to 3 batteries means it would be easily over 200 acres. Really no reason to need battery swaps. Probably 90% of all mapping plans are somewhere from 5 to 20 acres or so. I checked and even a 50 acre converted map would only take about 20 minutes for a normal pattern plan. Just some thoughts. Enjoy.
Thanks everyone for the replies. I think the best thing to do is try! The battery issue is important because while it's true that you can map a very large area in 30 minutes, it's also true that battery life is subject to many variables such as wind, wear, type of route, etc. I have an Air 2S that I use with Dronelink for aerial photogrammetry and wanted to replace it with the Air 3S that I recently purchased, which has given me great satisfaction with manual surveys. I'll keep you updated on the issue. Thanks everyone.
