Workflow for using manual focus and manual exposure in mapping

FlyinLo

As I understand in mapping missions DL uses manual focus in missions but Auto Exposure.  I am trying to understand if I fly a mission and wish to use MF and manual exposure I would take off to mapping altitude and adjust manual exposure accordingly.  But when using manual focus, is that something that is set by DL based on the AGL or can I tap the center of the screen to "auto focus" but leave it locked on that focus setting for the remainder of the mission?

When I click the center screen there does not seem to be anything to indicate it focused on the spot I tapped.  And if I did not tap on the screen what Focus Setting is DL using?  IN other words, is it just using 'infinity" for the manual focus?

Thanks for any help.

Dronelink does not change the focus or exposure mode in mapping missions. The modes remain in whatever state you have them set to before the map.

I would take off to mapping altitude and adjust manual exposure accordingly

You can either do this before the mission, or if there is a component before the map, you can manually disengage and do it, or use a disengage component with a text message to remind you to do it.

But when using manual focus, is that something that is set by DL based on the AGL

No, manual focus means manual (i.e. the user does it). The issue is Dronelink does not have a manual focus wheel in the UI right now, so the only way to set it is in another app first, or by using the Focus Ring command, but that requires you to know the focus ring value.

but leave it locked on that focus setting for the remainder of the mission

I assume you mean in case you accidentally tap the screen again, causing it to refocus? The only way to prevent that is to switch the control to spot metering target mode, which changes the meaning of screen taps to spot metering target.

When I click the center screen there does not seem to be anything to indicate it focused on the spot I tapped.

Assuming the UI is in AF mode, then you should see a green box pulsate while the focusing happens.

And if I did not tap on the screen what Focus Setting is DL using?

Whatever the camera was focused to previously.

That is most helpful.  So moving forward, I will fly to the altitude set focus to AF, tap the screen, change back to MF.  Then also change exposure to full manual and set to desired parameters.  I was thinking there was a "manual focus assist" function but simply using AF, and then switching to MF will accomplish the same thing.  Thank you for clarifying.

I did a waypoint mission today and noticed a long period of focus hunting in AF mode which I had not noticed before so looked to switch to manual focus but could not find a way of tapping on the screen to set focus. I take it the manual focus tap on screen is still not available in the app and we have to load DJI Go (for the Mavic 2) focus then load dronelink?

Where is full manual focus support expected?
