Mavic 3

Antonello Palitta

My name is Antonello Palitta, I'm a surveyor and I'm considering purchasing a
DJI Mavic 3 (standard version). Before proceeding, I'd like to know if your software
allows me to plan and execute automated flight missions for aerial photogrammetry.
Specifically, I'd like to know:
- if the Mavic 3 is currently supported by your platform;
- if it's possible to create grid-based mapping missions with altitude control, overlay, and GSD;
- and if the mission can be exported or executed directly via DJI Fly or via the DJI SDK v5 interface.
My goal is to produce orthophotos of small work areas, subsequently georeferenced using GNSS ground control points.
Thank you in advance for your time and for your technical feedback.
Kind regards,
Antonello Palitta

    The short answer is that your drone is not well supported.  If you bought it for surveying purposes then I'm afraid you bought the wrong one as you should have gone with the Mavic 3E, which has the SDK.

    If you wanted more information on that you watch this video which will explain why the Mavic 3 is not ideal https://youtu.be/iRXfEEjzOzk

    With that said...if you already have the drone then there is a way to make it work but it takes a few extra steps.  Those are all laid out in this video:  https://youtu.be/Uuk21sVoZRo

    Hope that helps!

    Good morning, I read your reply on the forum and thank you very much. I haven't bought the drone yet, luckily. I didn't want to buy the Mavic 3 Enterprise because it's very expensive, and I don't have much work to do. I didn't want to buy the mini 4 because it's too small. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you very much.

    For other people reading this thread here:  An used Air 2s might be a good alternative.  When you live in EU, it should have a C1 certification for flying in open class A1.  You can apply DJI for one, it takes some weeks to get. ( Otherwise you have to fly in class A3 and get 150m distances)

    maybe you can buy used but good condition Mavic 2 pro, and get new batteries (also for remote control). I used mavic 2 pro and it worked perfectly. it is supported in full by this app. older drone but quite capable. shorter battery time in flight than mavic 3, though.

    Mavic 2 pro is a good drone, but in Europe/EU it is categorized as "Legacy drone" and can only be used in Open class A3.  That mean that it has to be used 150m from buidlings, peoples, etc.("Fly far  from people").

    The Air 2s also got a 1" sensor, but can be cerified as an C0 drone and be used in  class A1, Then you can fly close  ("Not over assemblies of people").   In my opinion (I have used both), there is not much between those drones for photo quality.

    In the end, I purchased a DJI Mavic 3.
    From what I’ve seen, using the KMZ file replacement workaround, it seems possible to run planned missions anyway.
    I haven’t had the chance to test it in the field yet, but I plan to do some tests in the coming days.

    As an alternative, Litchi Mission Hub also allows mission planning, or you can continue using Dronelink, export the mission file, and then replace it inside the DJI Fly app.

    In any case, I don’t use it for advanced photogrammetry: I mainly need it to generate orthophotos for construction site progress monitoring.
