Marker's positioning setting - use scenarios

Ray Kao

This setting determines the behavior of repositioning the markers when warping the flight path (moving waypoints).

Jim McAndrew

Thank you for your answers in the last questions. But, about the positioning, I still can not figure out it.

My biggest confusion comes from: Positioning seems to be determined by flight path, and flight path is the main function of Way points; on the contrary, the function of Marker is to give instructions to the drone to execute, but Marker cannot alert the flight path of the drone.

The Market can give commands to tell the drone to fly higher, lower, and the direction of heading, but I still have trouble understanding how these settings relate to the positioning settings.

At the same time, I also did an exercise, in this exercise, I still can't see the two settings have different results, so I still can't understand Marker's positioning settings.

I thought about it a bit, and I figured it would be more appropriate to ask the question in a different way:

For users, in what use scenarios are the two options of Marker's positioning more applicable?

  • Distance from Start
  • Nearest Coordinate

Since this feels like an interesting and important topic, I'm asking it here on its own to facilitate subsequent discussion & learning.

Thanks.

Create a path and put a marker in the middle of it. Then start dragging the waypoints and watch how the marker attempts to stick to the path when you have each positioning setting selected.

Nearest coordinate means it will try to find a spot on the path that is closest to where it was before you started dragging. Distance from start means it will try to find the spot on the path that is the same distance from the starter of the path (horizontal).

Thank you very much for the explanation, now I can see the difference very clearly.

I also re-adjusted the plan of the example, for those who are reading this, you can try it directly (you need to copy it first).

As long as you move up or down WP-B, you will clearly see the different results of Marker A & B (MA is NC, MB is DfS).

(Just pull the WP-B up or down and you'll see obvious results right away)

However, I haven't been able to apply it yet.

Maybe what I needed was 100% control | WP -> Path -> Marker(Commands), so I could not imagine it changing positions on its own.

I don't know yet but it seems to be a new world there and it is worth exploring. :-)
