AGL Markers with low altitude.

First of all, I don’t work for, speak for or get compensated by Dronelink in any way. I just enjoy using DL and I like creating videos to highlight my hobby.

I’ve seen many questions over the last 1-1/2 years about using Terrain Follow or AGL function. Terrain Follow is what can be used with maps and you can look up that info if curious how to set them up this way.

This video is using AGL markers along a path. You need to realize the ESRI data being used for accuracy is only accurate over roughly 30m, (100’) of distance along the path, not at every point. AGL Markers along a path should be placed more often especially in areas where the elevation increases to ensure proper altitude.

Thought I’d make a short mission along my driveway with a path and AGL markers at low altitude. I set the markers to 12’ AGL and it actually ran at about 6’ to 7’ which is normal due to accuracy of the drone and data. Approximately 500’ distance with a 50’ elevation change from top of driveway to bottom at street. I Normally don’t fly this low but I wanted to showcase how well it works if setup properly.

Due to the constant elevation changes in my area I use AGL markers a fair amount of the time for lower altitude flights like 30 feet and some higher altitudes if the elevation increases greater in altitude. More AGL markers along the path will increase the chance for more accurate altitude and especially in areas where the elevation Increases. However, you don’t need to place a mass amount of them along the path. Just set enough every so often and especially at locations where the elevation increases. I run the mission in Google Earth which really gives a good representation of what the flight will actually look like. If needed I adjust the plan and re-run Google Earth to ensure it will fly without any issues once on location. It has worked great and I’ve ran many AGL mission to include a 3.5 mile mission with constant elevation increases while following a Forest road.  Elevation went up to about 600’ from the ATL while still remaining at about 65’ AGL.

Just some info for those who don’t use or know how to utilize the AGL function. It has worked fantastic for me.

Hope this is helpful. Enjoy everyone.

Looks like it tracked pretty well in that case! Thanks for the post, this will be great article to link back to when people ask about it.
