Low battery command for battery swap

Mike (Arizona Wyldwest) Dronelink Expert Dronelink Expert

A couple questions when flying a mission with a battery swap. Either “time” or “battery percentage”

I know I can change the battery swap time in the mission preview which is defaulted at 15 minutes. I know I can add a low battery warning command in the plan.

If I use a low battery warning command in the plan will the drone fly until that approximate battery percentage is reached and then RTH for a battery swap, or will it still need to swap batteries at about 15 minutes which is set in the preview. Basically, Does the low battery warning command override the defaulted 15 minutes in the mission preview ?

Thanks in advance. Mike…….

The setting in the previewer is just an estimate for the previewer, it has no effect on reality.

Ok, understood. Then if I use a low battery command component percentage it will fly until that approximate amount and then due a RTH for a battery swap ? Just trying to set up mission where the drone will fly a longer mission before swapping batteries. If it will work this way I can possibly set up the plan to initiate the swap while drone is closer to my take-off location instead of 1,000 feet away or so. It would make it quicker for swaps and better flight time/ battery usage.

What I’m asking is, does the low battery warning work like this or is it just a warning prompt to let you know the battery level ?

Thanks again for your prompt response Jim.

Yes, this command just sets the same setting in DJI GO / Fly, which controls the RTH behavior.

Ok. I have the MA2 so the DJI Fly app doesn’t have any of those battery settings for RTH. It hits the first low battery RTH at approximately 20% which can be dismissed. The second critical low battery at about 10% and can not be cancelled. Im Just trying to make it a bit better for battery swaps when creating any plans.

An idea about the command wording. Maybe change the command to “Low Battery RTH” Just a thought.

Everything overall has been working fantastic. Keep it up and please thank your amazing team for me. Thanks again Jim…

We typically try to stick with the naming from the DJI SDK / DJI Apps. Apparently this API isn't supported by the Mini or the MA2:

Understood. I tried a 24 minute mission. I Added command of 20% low battery and it went into RTH at about 20 % which was 22 minutes instead of the usual 15 minutes. So seems to work. Thanks for info.

I've experienced it a couple of times that my drone came back because of the 20% battery life although it needed to fly for only a 30 more seconds to a minute. When you have an extra battery that's no problem but when it's the only one take with you it gets annoying ;-)

I don't want to add an extra command for the battery low in every fly plan. Is it possible to change this somewhere in the software that 15% is the new standard ?

    Best Regards,

    Danny

You can set the battery values in thr DJI app and they will carry over.

Danny. Which drone ? It will depend on which drone and the app is uses. Unfortunately The DJI Fly app doesn’t have any battery percentage triggers like some other DJI Apps. Default is the 20% as indicated above so no way to change it except with a command. It’s Very simple to add a drone command at very beginning of any plan. I’d suggest create a drone component list with it set to 15% which is the lowest it can be set. No different then adding a camera component list with all the cameras settings from your Repos. Only takes a few seconds to add it.
