Virtual Sticks commanded directly from the drone

Jose Pal

Hi,

I appreciate the good functionality of the virtual sticks to fly the DJI Mavic Air 2, and I was thinking of an idea to improve it. We know that the only little inconvenience is that constant communication drone-control is neccesary, and I suppose that if SDK would be released for Waypoints, they are charged to and read directly from the internal or SD memory located in the drone. So if a signal lost is produced the drone can continue working.

So, my idea or doubt is: there is any tricky possibility of developing automate the reading or current coordinated and course correction to reach listed coordinates saved into the drone memory?

I imagine that it sounds like modifying the firmware or installing another app within the drone, but I am not an expert in software development.

What do you think about it?

It will be possible? It would be hard work?

Thank you for considering my post.

Running onboard drones like the Mavic is not technically possible right now - you have to use drones like DJI's M series.

    I understand.

Thank you very much for your reply Jim.

How does the Mavic Air 1 and Pix4DCapture do it?

They are uploading waypoints, which is possible. Onboard virtual stick commands (as the OP stated) is not possible.

And then, how does the system work, algorithm instructions (e.g.: If current position=current waypoint position then change course to the next waypoint) are given from the control or from the main board of the drone?
I figure that the drone or the control (from the DJI Go instructions for example) sends signals to the the potentiometers or mechanical components of the drone.

If you are curious about how the DJI SDK works, you can read the documentation on virtual stick and waypoints for yourself.

When stick commands are created and sent to drone from DL, are they a proportional amount or are they Hard over levels ie; full stick?

What is the question behind your question?

Thinking of varying advanced gimbal options to control smoothness of gimble and yaw.  Don’t know if commands are hard over or proportional to some parameter. It would probably make a difference in that event.
