Some questions about Panoramas

Tim B

I've used the 360 Photo component starting with a Blank plan then adding from Advanced --> Repository,  with very good results.

Now I need to create some Horizontal Panoramas but can't quite understand how they are constructed when adding as a new plan. I see in the simulator the Stop/Mode/Type... etc. camera commands then the five images captured at intervals, but don't see how any of these settings can be edited in the plan itself?

Also finding it a challenge to get the exact framing and overlap I would prefer with a 180 panorama and wondering if I could run an On the Fly mission, fly to the point I would like to begin to capture the panorama, take a series of images from that one spot using the framing & overlap I prefer,  then Run & Save that mission for later reuse?

Hi Tm. Not sure if I fully understand but the Pano component pattern can be change to horizontal. The Pano component cannot be edited as all the settings are imbedded into the component. In regards to the On the Fly Pano, it would still work the same. It was added a while ago for some pilots which wanted a simple way to capture the photos and stitch therm. You can try using the DL shared “360 Photo” component and edit it but you would need to how to change the rows and columns.

    Ah, got it. Makes sense.

In regards to the On the Fly Pano...

Didn't explain what I was wanting to do very well. Basically I'm finding it easier to just manually capture a series of images that I can use to create a horizontal panorama. IOW, fly a point, line up the view to be the center of the panorama, then manually rotate left/right with a good overlap between the images captured.

If I were to start an OnTheFly mission could I fly to the same point and capture the same series of images and when done save that as a Mission I could rerun? Sort of like Barry's video showing how to create a Waypoint Mission that can be saved and reused. The difference of course being that all the images would be taken in the same position.

I often make large panorama prints, sometimes using two rows of 5 or so images. In this case I'd like to be able to capture a series of panoramas at the same location over time as the seasons change e.g.

Haven't had time to fly and try this myself yet.  Probably discover all the reasons why this can't be done!

I thought about this for awhile and came up with an idea. It may take some adjustments but I think it is a good start. You may need to adjust the distance between the POI’s. I added 10 photos but looking at the mission preview it is too many. The 180 Pano only shoots 5 to get enough overlap. Im sure you could probably eliminate several and still have more than enough overlap. I added altitude offset so it’s capturing at 0° pitch. Try it and see if you think it will work for you. At least it gives an idea of what you can do to utilize the photo component and how to set something up. It only took me about 15 minutes to create this one. You may be able to use the On the Fly photo component to set one up but I’m not sure since I’ve never used it. If you can be used this way then you would be able to rotate for each capture to get enough overlap. Then it could saved and edited in the Web app. Hope this helps. Enjoy.

Thanks much Mike much for taking the time to assist with this! I'll take a look at your plan when I get back home later this week.

One thought... I'm not quite sure how the "altitude offset" and zero degree pitch works in your sample Mission?

If you want to email I have some other suggestions with more detailed information. It would be much easier to explain many of the possible settings/ functions/ features to get your plan the way you want. Let me know if you want my help as I am always willing to assist other pilots. Thank have a few other suggestion. You can get my email anytime from the leaderboard. I think I’m about 30th or so on the board.
