Test Missions

wwhamp

Good Morning Jim,

iOS iPhone 8 Beta Version 2.2.0 (141) Mavic Air 2

I flew four test missions this morning and all were successful. The missions included altitude change, POI, camera commands and gimbal commands. I found that the the overall smoothness was excellent and much improved over the previous build and all of the missions produced results that were very close to expectations as rehearsed in Google Earth. Only two problems were observed:

1. The video feed is somewhat jerky but the actual footage is fine.

2. Loading the third mission I had no camera feed to the iPhone screen. I reloaded the mission with the same result. Powering off the controller and then the drone several times solved the problem.

The missions are in our public repository under G4orce Aerial Media Test Flights named CB Pier with variations if you care to look at them.

I will be flying additional missions later today based on my increased confidence in Dronelink.

Best regards,

Werner Hamp

Good to hear and overall I agree it’s been working great.

If the video feed doesn’t work in the future try starting the DJI Fly App first and let it load up then close it. Then load Dronelink app. I’ve only had it happen maybe twice a couple months ago and it worked. Maybe it will work for you and you won’t need to start up drone and controller several times. Maybe Jim can help to explain why this happens or maybe look into a fix if possible.

    Good luck and Enjoy.

Thanks for the input Mike. I had DJI Fly running at the same time just in case. That may have been the reason. I'm planning to do another couple of missions later today. I'll shut down DJI Fly before starting Dronelink and see if it happens again. Appreciate the advice.

Current Beta Version -  Mavic Air 2 - New iPad 10.2

I had the similar issue when manually turning the drone around it's axis..  Very jerky on screen.  I closed the Dronelink app and started DJIFly app.. rotated the drone and closed DJIFly and opened the Dronelink app again.  Rotation around the axis was now smooth.

I also was not able to change the ISO... I had to close Dronelink and go into the DJIFly app to change the ISO.  Back into the Dronelink and it took the change.

Yes. I’ve had the same thing happen with camera settings. However, They work when mission is loaded. Initially on starting Dronelink app and connecting it sometimes won’t let you change them. Since I only use Dronelink with missions, I don’t worry about the settings in the app after startup and connection.

Let me know if any of this is better in 142.

I don’t use Dronelink that often but try about every week or so. Great Sunny Southern Arizona and approaching springtime and it’s windy and snowing. Lol. Definitely like to see if any improvement in this build (142). It doesn’t really bother me since the footage is perfect but I understand it should be smooth overall. Curious to see comments from others if it’s smoother.

Just a suggestion about the jerkiness or any other issue. I always restart my IPad so it’s a fresh boot before using either DJI Fly or Dronelink app. Also I never just update the apps, I always delete and reinstall like new. I’ve been doing this almost since I got the MA2 and it has not had any issue with DJI fly app at all. Also just like any computer a fresh reboot of your device can solve lagging, bogging down and other problems. Something to think about and it takes very little time. It may save some headaches in the future. Maybe it will help those having issues with either app.

    Enjoy everyone, Mike......

Tested today with function on the fly and two waypoints with many turns of the drone.

Video at 60fps it seems smoother but to be honest is the first time I try the 60fps instead of 30fps.

I was able move the drone around its axis with NO jerkiness and was also able to make changes to ISO.  This was done without having to go into DJIFly first..

I went out to fly a few missions and had a battery issue..  (just once though).  Started the drone then opened Dronelink...  Had a red battery icon upper right.  Had a warning msg but it came and went without me have a time to read it...  so I brought the drone up to a hover then went up to about 10ft..  everything seemed normal.  I brought it back down to a landing, leaving it running, I closed Dronelink and opened up DJIFly..  the battery indicator was green and showed normal.  I closed DJIFly and reopened Dronelink and now the battery indicator showed green also...  I flew 3 batteries with no additional issue..  I'll keep an eye on this...

Went out and flew a couple of mission this afternoon..  I turned on Dronelink and then started the drone...  No camera... so I turned dronelink off and turned DJIFly on and the camera was present.. closed DJIFly and turned Dronelink back on and the camera was fine for the rest of the missions...  FYI.. I shut everything off before each mission to see if I could duplicate the camera issue and could not.

I've had that problem twice with the Fly application by itself after updating. The live image was either completely under or over exposed, i.e. black or white and wouldn't respond to the screen controls. Turned everything off and on and the problem cleared.
