Mavic Mini AutoTakeoff Mode Issue

Edward Zabarauskas

Thank you Dronelink for your great Mission Planning software. Now that Winter is quickly approaching, I am wanting to plan some backyard missions to explore Dronelink's many features. Besides the issues of GPS accuracy and sat maps' lack of fine detail for my very small backyard, I have come up with my first issue which I think relates to the AutoTakeoff mode that I see in my Mavic Mini AirData logs. I want to launch from a Hottub cover on the deck which is overall about 8 feet above ground level. I set the approach to be 4 feet in altitude just above the Takeoff Location. The mission launches and immediately the Mini climbs much too high, way above what I was expecting. I immediately stopped the mission, as I need the low altitudes in that area to avoid some power lines. The Mavic Mini when doing AutoTakeoff from the DJI Fly app hovers 1.2m as expected. Any special settings for these low altitude missions?

Dronelink uses precision takeoff, which goes higher. If you want to avoid that you should takeoff manually before starting the mission.

I have the same issue, went ahead and took off manually (both sticks down and together), manually hovered to 5 feet, then launched the mission.  The Mavic Mini immediately rose to 18 feet as if it was doing a precision takeoff, how do I remove the takeoff from the mission, seems to be baked into the approach and can't delete the approach?

The app automatically issues a take-off command, but only if starting from the ground. We are not able to reproduce this behavior. Can you share a link to your plan?

I think I found the root cause to this issue,  created a new simple out and back path mission with an altitude of 5 feet.  I manually launch the Mavic Mini to avoid the precision takeoff issue and hover at 4 feet.  The altitude displayed on Dronelink is not accurate, on one flight it indicated 2.3 feet, on another it indicated -3.6 feet, both while hovering at around 4 feet.  Using DJI fly app the altitude displayed seems to be accurate.  Is this the expected tolerance at low altitude or is there a way to calibrate the altitude to take-off ground level? Mavic Mini, iPhone 12 Pro.

Dronelink simply displays the altitude that the DJI SDK reports, which is determined by the barometric altimeter on the drone, which measures the altitude relative to the takeoff location. This sensor uses barometric pressure to measure altitude, and we have observed the readings drift by as much as +/-10-15 feet during a single battery.
