Dronelink For MA2 - Is Beta Safe ...

19CLH69

Or Should I wait until its no longer in Beta before purchasing ?

I dont want a bug to bring my bird crashing into the ground.

Would like to hear some input from users about Beta being good enough to feel safe now using it.

Pro's and Con's would be good as well.

Cheers

I would not recommend using the beta version of Dronelink if all you care about is getting pre-release access to MA2 support. The beta is meant for people that actually want to test the software and are ready/willing to encounter bugs. Having said that, from a flight performance standpoint, the beta is just as safe as the production version.

I think a beta software version of one software that operates on an hardware is always a risk.
Sure the people of Dronelink know what they are doing but smartphones can have a thousand problems. Also remember that at the moment only iOS is compatible with MA2.

Maybe you can try to use it for limited periods or close to the Home point.

In the beta tester section there is no report of people who dropped their drone due to the software.

    Thank you for the replies.

Ive been an avid RC pilot for years, helicopters and fixed wing.

My goal is not just about having access to MA2 support, Im interested in Dronelink because I like the idea of having smoother flight when shooting video. I have always flown manually and sometimes shooting footage I will get a minor glitch in filming because my finger moved just slightly on the stick or something like that.

But to have something that would provide a more controlled smoother flight would be great to have in some circumstances of filming. Ive never used an automated software ever. Im thinking about purchasing Dronelink beta so I can start learning how to use the software before I even use it on an actual flight "mission".

Question, Can I use the software for a teaching tool without having to actually fly first? Ive seen you can design missions, and then test them before you fly the missions. Is it possible to learn how all functions of the software work and test them to see what they actually do virtually ?

I like to know what im doing before I "actually" use something.

Thank you for your help with my questions.

You are exactly in my condition.

I bought a Dronelink subscription to try out its features. You can create missions on the web app and simulate them. You will be able to see everything that will happen to the drone during the mission, camera activation, camera movement, drone movement, etc.

The commands are sent as if you were the one making them.

I haven't been able to use it yet because I only have android devices.

I also tried other similar applications but Dronelink is the most complete for the number of functions and above all it has the simulation function.

Thanks for that info Raffaello Di Martino IZ0QWM

Very helpful indeed. Its good to know I can learn the commands and watch them perform in simulation before actually making them in real time flight.

    Thanks again and stay safe.

I joined up just about 4 days ago and started playing with the beta and totally enjoying.

You need to watch "oyibo vfx" videos on youtube and you'll get up-to-speed VERY fast. I suggest testing with short test runs within 100-400 ft in the clear first  to get a hang of things first. Don't do any camera work until you get a feel for the dronelink flying and programming. oyibo vfx walks you thu the exact stuff you need to know to be confortable. His videos are short and understandable...Meanwhile you can still survive the odd surprise you may experience...going from gofly to the beta. Have fun...set your max speed down to about 5-10km first to study your potential flight path and camera work . Have fun.

Did you try to fly higher than the max altitude you set on the drone?

If you are using terrain follow it is possible you are trying to go higher than the limit (relative to the takeoff location), which is how that setting works.
