New Command: Play Sound on Waypoint

alex gimenez

Upon reaching a waypoint, add the ability to play a short sound on the CONTROLLING DEVICE.

Ideal: Sounds chosen at random by user

Okay compromise: User can only choose from 10 or so predefined sounds

Use case:

  - For filming artistic (entertainment) pieces, the director can use the sound as cues to coordinate specific action with the drone camera motion.

-Example: When drone reaches waypoint 3, play a sound to the director's headphone, and he signals an actor to start running.

-Analogy: Think about hand signals made by the cameraman to the director.

Possible Alternative:

   - Blinking drone lights may be a substitute for sounds in some cases. But sounds is certainly more suited to this use-case, as they require less attention span from the operator, plus the drone may be out of sight (too far or hidden behind obstacles) making the lights impossible to see.

Would an on-screen notification (with configurable text) be good enough?

On-screen notification is certainly better than no alert.

But sound is nicer, because it can come via headphones, so the Director can be multitasking on other production chores (and there are many), without having to watch the device display.

Additionally, if the notification comes via sounds, it can be fanned to multiple people (multiple headphones) at the same time, triggering coordinated action matching the viewing angle from the drone.
