First mission - Location unavailable

Matthew Coad

Hi. I'm trying out dronelink for the first time on my Mavic Pro 2. I go to my normal training ground, an oval near my house and do a simple orbit.

I hit play and its get an error "Location unavailable". I've tried with both a takeoff restriction and without. No dice.

This location is height restricted to a max of 120m due to geo-boundary. Suffice it to say the mission doesn't go over 30 meters.

I tried again at a different location as far from the geo zones as I am permitted under covid lockdown. Still complained about a 120m flight restriction (maybe thats just Australia. Their are no geozones listed on the dji map for that location) Worked beautifully.

Went back to the original location. Tried the original mission that failed. Worked fine.

Have no idea what went on!

Probably is you must have coherence the place where are you take off and where is setting the place in the plan. Then its important check the plan and physical place.

    My first flight using DL.

I built a new plan, ran it, half way through it stopped at marker 2 (probably a marker command the Spark does not support). Manually RTH, then updated the plan by removing marker 2.

I tried several times to re-run the plan, same results when pressing the play button "Location unavailable".

DJI Spark, Galaxy S7 Edge, had 9 to 11 satellites before starting the plans, green marker at the upper left so it was ready to go.

S7 has DJI Go and DJI Fly installed, not sure if DL uses any of those SDK's.

My question is, what causes "Location unavailable".

From a code stand-point, it means the DJI SDK has not reported, or has stopped reporting the Drone's location to Dronelink. It is also possible that the downlink from the drone has become bad enough that the last known reported position is too old to act on, so Dronelink doesn't want to send anymore commands until the signal improves.

I had same problem with my Mavic Mini. It seems that drone can't set homepoint!
My solution: first start DJI fly app, wenn app have set homepoint, finish app completely. Now start Dronelink and you'll be able to fly your mission.

We did have a check in the flight controller to report an "unknown location" when the home location is not set. We are going to remove that for now and probably add a separate warning confirmation later.

Ok, will wait for Home Point acquisition before leaving the DJI apps, then open DL. I just waited for the DJI SDK to open and have not been checking for Home Point acquisition.

Have had this problem using Mini + DJI Fly then DL and Spark + DJI Go then DL.

    Thanks!!

Galaxy S7, Mavic Mini using USB controller interface.

Turned on controller and Mini, when connected opened Fly, connected, closed app, opened DL, pressed Play on Plan, "Location Unavailable"

Opened Fly, connected, hovered at 10 feet, set Home Point, closed, opened DL, tried to play plan, Location error.

Landed, turned controller off, turned controller on, waited for connection to Mini, when connected (as shown by leds on controller) opened DL, played Plan and it ran perfect.

Rebooting the controller before opening DL fixed it this time, but it may be leaving the system running in Fly longer before opening DL. Lots of variables on this!
