Telemetry delayed - internet connection speed crucial?

I'm new to Dronelink (to drones generally), so let my 1st thank you for an impressive piece of software. It really opens a new world of features especially for the Mavic Mini (which I own for two weeks).
I got the "telemetry delayed" message on my 1st "serious" mission yesterday (https://app.dronelink.com/bob-hoskins/rostiger-nagel/plan/dBd22zHaAQKSfTMnYnHP/yLX4ZkSe025JLZAXbZ41) and I think I know the reason, since it happend in the radio shadow of a big steel tower. The drone hovered a while, than I was able to press "play" again and the mission resumed, although with pretty choppy "look to the POI" gimbal movements sometimes. In the preview that didn't happen.
To eliminate one possible cause for "telemetry delayed": How crucial is it to have a good internet connection during the mission? I would assume the commands are locally cached when loading the mission. I used a WiFi-only Samsung S5e tablet through a hotspot from a Huawei P20 Pro.
