Geographical Coordinates of center camera point

AndreaR70

I Jim, thanks for the great job!

I'm an Italian firefighter, and it would be interesting to have the coordinates of the center camera point, calculated with interpolation between SRTMs, UAS position, and gimbal angles, for example to give a poin with a pair of geographical coordinates with max error of 15/20 m to ground squads for search and rescue purpose, or for give feedback in forest fires operation using a termal camera and indicate the points when the terrain still at hot temperature and send the ground squads to clean up and bonificate.
Today the only way to get the coordinates of a point, is to move the UAS to the exact vertical of the point and read the values of coordinates on display only with DJI Pilot App and supported UAS!

Regards

Andrea

Any reason you want to use Dronelink for this use case vs a solution made specifically for it?

    Thanks for the reply

Honestly I don't know Dronesense, and I don't know if it provides the coordinates of the camera center in real time during the entire flight and if it uses the SRTMs to prepare the mission. I think having the camera coordinates requires a lot of programming, and until now I have never seen anything like this for all the drones of the DJI. But your platform seems to me very well done, practical and intuitive, created by young and capable engineers and in continuous evolution! Everything you need to plan each mission you have already done, and for this reason I thought that an additional function to display the coordinates pointed by the camera could be another point in Dronelink's favor. Using a single application to do any task is much easier than having 3 or 4 applications each for a specific mission to learn in detail. What you need to rescue is something simple, quick and intuitive to use, you can not waste time to switch from one app to another with 1000 functions that are useless. You simply need to fly, provide a streaming, take a screenshot with a quick key where you can see the coordinates of the terget and the UAS and send them immediately to the ground teams that go there. Photos and videos taken will be analyzed calmly after the flight!

Understood. Do you have a network connection for most of your missions?

Unfortunately sometimes yes and sometimes no. It would be great to be able to plan a mission and cache offline maps with SRTMs on devices, with some extra coverage to make sure you cover the entire territory where the mission can be accomplished.

That is the main issue with your use case. We can add all the bells and whistles, but without proper offline support it's essentially pointless.

You're absolutely right Jim and I understand the problem, but if it were implemented, better use it even 50% of the time or more when there is a connection, than not having it at all like now!

As a SAR pilot as well, I love the idea. Also would like to fly directly to coordinate i input instead of just touching a point on a map.

That is already possible (Destination component advanced view):

That is wonderful news. Now if we can get that SDK from dji for the MA2 and actually fly the darn thing ill be stoked! I know its a stretch but any chance you can use the utm format?
