Amendment to shutter speed command for camera absolute or relative (Manual Exposure Mode)

Andrew Busst

In order to be able to write plans for HDR and manual exposure (so your overall lighting remains smooth) it seems, for the Mavic Mini at least, the only thing you can do is change Shutter Speed between each shot.

Would it be possible in the Shutter Speed Command to have a switch for relative and absolute?

So say for example you were currently on 1/4000 at f 2.8 and you now wanted to take another HDR exposure but at two stops slower you could either enter absolute of 1/1000 or a relative change down of 8 clicks. (that's using the Dronelink number required but in the Mini it would only be 6 clicks as clicks are 1/3 stop whereas Dronlink is 1/4 stop)

I'm not sure if DL follows the app or what's in the Drone but another variable to factor.

Is this something that would be possible as will save me having a plan for each starting exposure i.e 1/4000, 1/2000, 1/1000 etc etc and would make true easy HDR possible on a manual basis?

Dronelink shows all the options that are available in the DJI SDK, and it is up to you to make sure you select values that actually work for your drone. Having said that, yes it is possible to make it relative (we have already done this for the EV compensation offset command).

This is great news Jim so do you have a timeline on that? Tomorrow?? Ha ha just kidding but I think if you are going to do that I will hold off writing a whole heap of plans for each Shutter Speed.

One question...so lets say you do introduce relative shutter speed commands and the Mini needs 3 clicks to change it one effective stop but that is 4 in DL if you change it 4 in DL will the Mavic mini correctly only have changed 3 clicks? Is the relative change done in DL which then sends the absolute value to the drone?

It will be relative to all the values that are in the current list, as those are directly from the DJI SDK. We don't have an estimate on the timeline for this. At the moment you are the only one asking for it, and thousands of people want things like Follow mode, so, you know...

All good I'm going to experiment with a suggesting of using Auto Exposure and exposure lock with EV change but think I will be defeated as I suspect lock changes after first capture?

Do you mind if I post on General Comments asking all those that want a one stop plan for HDR to make comment? I think it's a pretty desired feature and nobody has any auto HDR feature for images from the Mavic that I know of?

If you want. What would be even more epic is a pull request that implements it. Here is what the exposure offset looks like for reference.

Cheers I can "almost" follow that :-)
