Don't let me take off ( on a mission which stores data ) without an SD Card available

James Hall

I frequently forget to install an SD card when I'm focused on launching safely and in "situationally aware" state of mind ...

pix4dcapture doesn't let me launch without a card and without a card with sufficient space ( or at least it warns me loudly )

This is most annoying when I'm trying to impress someone watching ... no scratch that ... this is most annoying when I plan a mission at the outside limit of a single battery and the need to return home immediately after launching pushes me into a second battery... which I didn't bring because I've run this same mission before several times on one battery.

I don't understand why you would want to take off on a Px4D mission without a card.

I don't understand why you don't use a checklist as the FAA recommends.

I don't understand why you need to impress someone.

I don't understand why you would not take 2 batteries - unexpected wind can burn the battery faster  you say you are at the outside limit.

I don't understand why you are posting here about px4d.

Speechless, not just at the lack of numerous forethoughts and ‘planning’ but why post it?

Perhaps for sympathy and to get someone else to solve your problem by programming a technical warning to ‘insert SD card’, check you’ve got you underpants on, had your breakfast etc..

I guess you only ever put in enough fuel in your car to ‘almost’ get to the next garage, then the next one and so on whilst your spare can is tucked away neatly in your shed with your spare batteries.

Having said that, yes, humerous !

Everyone forgets things and I know this has happened to me a few times as well. Having said that, the app does currently show an SD card icon with a line through it when the SD card is missing (on top of the shutter button). It does not prevent you from taking off or give you a modal dialog warning about it though.

It does prevent you from running missions that include capture if no SD card is present. It would be nice to be able to override this in case you forget your card and still want to watch the mission fly in real time, so you can at least review whether the shot works.

You can set the start capture command to not required if you don't want it to fail the mission.
