Autonoumos missions without connection to controler

Helmut Ziller

Dear Jim,

dronelink is just great, but:

Living in the mountains, for me it is essential to have the option to do autonomous missions. In many circumstances the connection to the controller is lost due to obstacles. I am aware that you say that not all components could be executed directly on the drone. But to be honest, I would prefer less possible component options, but the option for missions without connectivity.

Or maybe, component options could be classified (Autonomous enabled) so that for connection-less missions only these could be used.

Dronelink would be the most outstanding solution, if you could add this feature.

PS: Till now I used Litchi which has the disadvantage that no autonomous flights above 500m can be planned (although height limits an drone disabled) . But connection-less missions work without a problem.

Litchi already exposes the full set of functionality that the DJI SDK allows for on-board missions. Curious why you would want to use Dronelink for this use case when you already have Litchi and it works.

    Hi Jim,

because with Litchi I cannot plan and execute missions above 500m (which is a restriction which is a tremendous restriction in mountainous locations) ....

This is just a limitation in their user interface or a hardware limitation in the firmware? If the later, Dronelink won't fix that issue.

    Hi Jim,

this is just a limitation in their user interface. My firmware has no height restriction. Using Dronelink I can fly as high as I like (and my battery).

Maybe you have already some beta Dronelink code which transfers mission data to the drone? I would be glad to test it....

This code does not exist yet, and if we do implement it, we will probably release it as a separate app because the functionality is so different from how the existing app functions. Do you have any comments or considerations to the legality of these types of missions?

    Hi Jim,
regarding legality: The height limit restriction is disabled in the drone's firmware, so Dronelink is not responsible for that. Even now Dronelink or Litchi do not have a height limit restriction flying in connected mode. So developing an app which simply does not have any restriction in itself would not be a legal issue.
Only the user of the drone would of course have a legality issue when he is flying above 500m or in unconnected mode or both at the same time. But this would be his issue, not an issue for Dronelink itself. Dronlink would just provide an application, the abuse of it to operate illegal missions is the responsibility of the user.
In comparison: If I am legally entitled to own a gun and use this gun in an illegal way, it is also not the responsibility of the shop which sold me that gun.
Anyway, thank you so much for this great application, in the time being I will use it for RC connected flights only.
