First test mission complete
Well after days of watching videos and reading up on dronelink, I just ran a little orbit corkscrew mission over my house. It seemed to do what it was supposed to. Is it supposed to start recording video when the mission starts, or do I have to program it to do that? It did seem to stop the recording I had manually started before I started the mission.
I must comment that IMO this is a very complicated and difficult program to learn. this coming from a person who has run several Litchi missions flawlessly and confidently.
That said, I do believe that if programmed correctly, this should not lose your drone. But, it's scary thinking that one small error could be disastrous.
I am however, intrigued by the potential of this program and will continue to play around with it to see if I can get more comfortable with it.
I would like to thank those who have been so kind as to respond to my comments and look forward to hearing from you on my latest inquiries.

Check out this new series of training videos that was released on mission planning and execution last week. It will direclty address your question about controlling the camera.:
https://vimeo.com/showcase/6369416
(Particularly the 7th and 8th videos)
Bottom line:
1) You can continue to control the camera manually as you did.
2) Dronelink will stop the camera at the end of the mission automatically.
3) If you want to have dronelink start the camera for you, you just need to issue a command (either at a marker or at an achieved component as part of an approach). The beauty of DL is that you can not only start/stop the camera but define all the settings. If you do that ONE time and create a component that you like, you can use that as your base Orbit/Path/etc. and the drone will always been set up properly when you fly.
4) I think there's less concern about "losing a drone" as long as you don't create a mission for it to fly into a wall. Like Litchi, if you create a mission to fly into a wall, unless the sensors kick in properly, you can crash into the wall..
There's also a new set of videos coming this week on collaboration and some other functionalty which you'll find useful..
Keep playing with it - you'll find it very rewarding.
