Google Play Services quits on Crystalsky
I have installed DL on my Smartcontroller , Mini ipad and 7.85 Crystalsky. both the SC and Mini ipad seem to be working. The CS sends an error message that Google Play Services has stopped. I have read online that this is an issue and I should Force Stop it but DL will not allow me to sign in.

Unfortunately the DJI has made the Crystal Sky experience difficult due to the choice of Android version and not truly supporting the Google Play store. You may need to restart the device, or even uninstall and reinstall the APKs to get it to work.
Is the Google Play store really necessary? What feature is being supported by that and can we do without it? I gave up on the Crystalsky for DL because of these annoying messages.
Dronelink is hosted on google cloud, which includes authentication, which means no google play services = no login.
Hello,
I've experiencing the same problem as Joe... I continue to see the 'Unfortunately, Google Play services has stopped' message. I've tried the reboot the Crystal Sky and reload each of the APKs route, without any success.
At this point, I'm stuck. Any other ideas?
Regards,
Rob Donald
Rob,
I'm sure this isn't the answer you are going to want but I gave up using the CS.
Honestly, for the older ones, I'm not sure that the processor is up to the task anyway. But, for now, I use either my iPad or my android phone.
Hey Barry et al,
Firstly, thanks for responding to my cries for help. Much appreciated.
Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to purchase another screen for the drone. The drone is owned by a non-profit and several hundred dollars for an additional screen is not going to fly... (pun intended). I know it won't make it past the Board of Directors.
For the record, this Crystal Sky was purchase just over a year ago... I'm not sure if that makes it old.
So, it looks like Dronelink is off the table... with that, I have a couple of questions.
Thanks,
Rob
Your purchase date is not what makes it old, it is the hardware and operating system that the CS uses, which is about 5 years old (ancient in tech years basically).

What Jim said on the CS hardware I'm afraid. In fact, these days, the CS can't even keep up with the DJI Go 4 app - mine is unusable with that as it is so laggy and glitchy that I have given up on that front.
Other mapping options like DroneDeploy also do not support the CS (see here https://support.dronedeploy.com/docs/supported-devices)
If you can't buy an iPad (or even just a non-DJI android device) and want to fly reliably without lag and glitchy video and still have basic preprogrammed flight then you can use Litchi. It doesn't have anywhere near the capability of DroneLink, but it will probably do much of what you need.
What it won't do - unless you set it up manually - is create mapping missions for you. You can set it to fly a path (e.g. back and forwards in rows), but you will need to create each lane yourself. I'm sure there are hacks that will make that easier but...that's outside of this conversation.
Best of luck!
