First Test Mission - Observations
Based on what I've read, I'm assuming we would like to post the results of test missions here, correct? If not, please straighten me out.
Test 1
AC: DJI Inspire 1 V2 with Zenmuse X5 mounted
RC: Standard DJI controller, the one that came with it.
Monitor/App: DJI CrystalSky 7.8 Ultra / Dronelink Beta
Repo: SMS DL Testing (Public)
Plan: First test plan- Ford Road
Result: Fail
Observations:
1) I followed the directions on the site to obtain the APK's, load them on a thumb drive, then open them on the CrystalSky to install them. DJI does not make this either easy or straightforward, but it did finally work.
2) Took AC out to approximate take-off point for the mission. Upon connecting RC and Monitor, I could see the camera feed and telemetry data on the app. "Play" button was there, but inoperative, probably due to an error that was shown on the top line of the screen "Gimbal Shake" (or something like that; was unable to screenshot the CS screen (I'm an apple guy, sorry).
3) after rebooting everything (CS, AC and RC) gimbal shake message went away. Alas, so did the "play" button.
4) Took off manually. Camera feed and AC telemetry looked right. Flew manually to first WP to see if the play button appeared. It did not. In addition, the pull downs at the top of the screen were inoperative (this may be by design).
5) Landed, rebooted and tried again. Same result, no play button.
6) Thinking it over, the RC was in "P" mode. I vaguely remember testing the DJI GS Pro app (does autopilot function as well, for photogrammetry) and it threw an error in "P" mode- controller had to be set to "F" (Function) mode in order for autopilot function to work. I'll test it again in "F" mode and report back; this may very well be the reason the "Play" button didn't work.
7) After landing and shutting down the engines, I wanted to run the battery down to 5% for maintenance, so I eft everything switched on. I discovered that moving the yaw (left stick, mode 2) left and right actually moved the camera gimbal left and right a small amount (like maybe 10 degrees each way). Curious, I started up and flew to about 20'AGL and tried the yaw control. The A/C yawed properly, however close observation of the monitor showed the gimbal was panning slightly as well. Yaw left, gimbal moves left. Stop yaw, the gimbal is now pointed left of center. Yaw right reverses this phenomenon. I'd not seen this happen before using DJI Go. I found it interesting.
Next test will be the same everything but with the RC set to "F" mode to see if the "play" button comes back.
Is this kind of writeup useful? If so I'll keep posting them on this thread.
Best,
Peter
