DJI Mini 3 Pro - odd & dangerous behaviour with flight plan

Lukas Döhring

Hello community,

after the recent update, our DJI Mini 3 Pro doesn't execute the planned flights anymore and furthermore acts very odd and does very random and dangerous maneuvers.

After starting everything up and the controller in "N"-Mode, dronelink always displays "P-GPS" as it's mode.

When we start a mission, the drone goes up and the start going crazy. Following things have happend:

- random yaw and spinning aroud

- the gimbal goas up and down

- drone goes down without command and could possibly have crashed into the ground.

We are using normal maps to fly over railway construction sites. Signal interference IS NOT the problem. When in manual flight, everything works fine and the drone can keep it's location perfectly. We also tried the same map and location with another drone and it went perfectly fine. A reset of the drone and deinstalling dronelink and dji fly doesn't help either. We have tried every basic solution to get it to work again but nothing helped.

So the only guess is that something is wrong with dronelink or the version of the app. I will add all the information about our mission down below but I hardly believe that they have to do anything with that, as these settings have worked for us plenty of times.

Any help and support is welcome as we need this to work again asap.

Kind regards,

Lukas

Similar behavior observed with mini 3 Pro.  The mission starts and after a few seconds, the screen becomes unresponsive.  The red arrow on the map (drone) and current mission freezes.  In one case, the second counter for a hover command stops counting and updates sporadically.  At some point, the drone goes to the next part of the mission, but eventually, the Dronelink software crashes.  In another case, the drone started descending to a CheckPoint (descent fixed at 0.5 m/s ) and kept descending until the obstacle detection on the mini 3 Pro kept the drone from touching the ground.  In another case, the drone started ascending vertically and rotating at the same time.  In all cases, the mission cannot be aborted using the screen or the Flight Pause / RTH button on the controller.  I have to force an abort by switching to cinema or sport mode.

There were no issues with Dronelink missions on the mini 3 Pro with the same hardware in the beginning of July 2024.

As of yesterday, there are no issues using the latest Dronelink update on a Mavic Pro and iPad mini 5.

Question : quel est le comportement de Dronelink lorsque la commande est perdue au cours d’une mission ?
You need a constant and clear connection between the drone and controller while flying any mission. If you lose connection even briefly the mission can stop and hover. After about 11 seconds the drones firmware triggers a RTH unless the signal is regained. If the signal is regained then the pilot can either try to resume the mission or take manual control.

I was able to use the link posted earlier in this thread to install DroneLink version 4.9.3 and I can confirm that using DroneLink 4.9.3 the mission executed perfectly.   SO there is definitely something going on with version 4.9.4.

Can you confirm that the latest beta (5.0.0) still has the issue?

    Hi!

I flew with the Mini 3 today over several hectares for mapping, and everything went smoothly.

This may not be related to the problem, but I’ll mention it just in case it could help. We use a well-known GIS mobile application for archaeological site detection, and it behaves abnormally on all Samsung phones.

There's no issue with point collection, but the tracking function is completely unusable! Sometimes it jumps several hundred meters - there’s no continuous tracking. The direction also shifts randomly, jumps around, etc.

We've been experiencing this problem since the spring. In our team, there are eight different Samsung devices; the older ones perform slightly better but are still not perfect. We have no issues with devices from other manufacturers.

I reached out to the GIS mobile app development team, and they mentioned they are also struggling with this issue, which seems to be related to Samsung phones' modified version of Android. It handles location services in a unique way.

I saw that your logs showed Samsung phones. Have you tried using devices from other manufacturers?

I had the problem with a Redmi note 8 pro, but with a custom android version on it (cherish OS). Perhaps the problem comes from custom roms ?

Unfortunately, we don't have a Redmi device, so I don't know if this error could be produced with it. However, we have several Honor and Huawei devices and they do not have this problem. Everything is accurate and I also work with an older Honor phone. We have no problem with Honor tabs either. works fine even up to iphone 12-15. From Samsung, the S-series is the worst in this field. I think the deciding factor (perhaps?) is the Android SDK version manufacturers develop their applications for. For example, this ominous field application was recently updated to Android SDK 34.
The situation has improved somewhat since then, but I haven't interviewed the boys yet - they haven't been in the field much since then.

At first glance, it seems to me that certain modified Android versions want to force GPS optimization from the devices in order to increase battery life?! Maybe the GPS is put to sleep for short periods of time or it gets less priority?!

    Unfortunately I don't know, I'm not a developer.

It appears that you are experiencing a different issue than what this thread is about so please post to a different thread. We are trying to get to the bottom of the issue of people getting "Drone Too Far Off Course".

Can anyone that is able to reproduce this issue confirm that it is still happening in the latest beta (5.0.0). If so, also, please confirm that it does not happen in 4.9.3 and that it does in 4.9.4. If that is the case, then it sounds like the fix for this issue is possibly causing the issue described here, as that is the only relevant change between 4.9.3 and 4.9.4.

Can someone help me when I set my drone to do a straightforward grid mission? My gimbal and drone seem to be spinning and go left and right like it’s glitching? The drone doesn’t actually stay on the course of its mission please help. Video evidence attached

    Hello everyone

Jim McAndrew @... I can confirm that the bug does not happen in DroneLink Beta 5.0.0 (296) | Kernel 5.0.0.

I flew two waypoints missions today with checkpoints, pictures and videos and everything went totally like it should. Also the interface was quick and responsive unlike before when the bug occured.

So what is the plan form here on? When can we expect an update for dronelink? Flying in beta is only for testing and shouldn't be the way to go for actual missions where I fly in public places.

Ryan Allen currently you need to fly with dronelink beta as the main version has a bug

Thanks guys. I’ll downgrade my to 4.9.3

Clearly an intermittent issue depending on the drones because I got my brother to fly my mission and he had no issues with it.

Can anyone from Dronlink advise how I can revert back to 4.9.3 as I can’t fly my drone

So what is the plan form here on?

We are continuing to try to find a way to reproduce this, or get more reports from users like you on which DL versions have the issue or not. The problem right now is you say it is fixed in 5.0.0, but Philippe says it still happens sometimes on 5.0.0. We need more data. DJI is asking for log files from running 4.9.4. You can either provide them here, or send them to support@dronelink.com.

Can anyone from Dronelink advise how I can revert back to 4.9.3 as I can’t fly my drone

Using 4.9.3 indefinitely doesn't help us solve the problem, but from my previous post:

It looks like the mission details only reports what version the device is currently using unfortunately. Can you try installing 4.9.3 from this link and see if the problem is still present?

DJI also wants the aircraft logs (see below).

And for the Mini 3 they want the SD card log:
    1.     Take out the aircraft SD card and connect it to the computer with a card reader.
    2.     Copy the MISC folder.

I have same problem with dronlink DJI 4.9.4 and Mini 3 Pro firmware 01.00.0900

When i start a mission drone is going up and spinning. Even the drone is at least 30 meter display showing 5 meter altitude.

Dont use dronelink anymore, afraid of loosing my drone.

    How to get a refund?

Same, paid roughly 120€ for nothing. Could not even do a mission, preferred to switch to pix4d which worked flawlessly.

As I have stated multiple times, you can always downgrade too 4.9.3 and use it without issues:

Can you  try installing 4.9.3 from this link  and see if the problem is still present?

If you would still prefer a refund, use this link.

If you want to help fix the problem, prove (or disprove) that the issue persists in the latest beta (5.0.0). If it persists, send the above mentioned log files to DJI, who recently seems to be taking this issue seriously.

Grazie in anticipo.

     could not take a picture

This appears to be a completely different issue than what this thread is about.

You seem to be one of the few users that downgrading to 4.9.3 doesn't solve the issue for unfortunately.

Volevo sapere se fosse stata trovata una soluzione.

Unfortunately no, we and DJI need more information, as stated in the last few posts above.
