Drone Flying in Restricted Zones

I am trying to fly my DJI drone in an area that I was approved to fly in by the FAA.  Unfortunately, my drone is not entering the restricted areas to finish my aerial maps.  I also got a Geo-zone unlocked for the same area with DJI themselves.  I am able to fly into that area with the DJI app, but when I try to fly in there with Dronelink, it simply does not allow the drone to do so.  What is the process to import my authorization either from the FAA or from DJI to allow the drone to fly into that airspace?

If you have imported to the drone and enabled it using the DJI app then it should be no problem in Dronelink.

See the video I showed here:  xhttps://youtu.be/osjnHG5-hgI

Things that might be causing problems.

    • If you change batteries sometimes you need to re-enable the unlock
    • If the path is partially inside and partially outside the unlock that is going to cause problems.  Once the unlock is active you cannot fly outside of it.

    Hope that helps

Ditto to what Barry said, I recently was flying in an unlocked Geo zone and the mission went slightly outside of the area I unlocked and the drone hovered and control was switched to manual operation. Remember the unlock zone approval from the FAA is not the same as the DJI unlock zone that you choose when you draw the polygon or radius. Just make sure your mission plan does not extend outside of your DJI unlock zone. The FAA authorization has no direct connection to the drones ability to fly in a specific area, it's simply the documentation you provide to DJI to get the unlock code. If the drone can fly into the restricted air space using the fly app, then the drone should be able to do the same while running DL. Make sure you unlock the zone with the fly app, then kill the fly app before starting DL.

  • I'll double check next time to make sure that I re-unlock it after battery changes.  Is there a difference between the DJI Fly App vs other DJI Apps?

There is a difference in where to find the unlock in the app - each one does it slightly differently but the process is the same, which is to load it to the controller, then load it onto the drone, and then activate it on the drone.

When requesting the unlock, you can ask for a bigger area because you do not want the drone transitioning in and out of the unlock area - that will cause the drone to stop.  It will not fly into the restricted area if the unlock is not active, and it will not fly out of the unlocked area if the unlock is active.

Basically, the entire flight has to be inside the area you unlock or you are going to have problems.
