Using Dronelink whilst carrying a payload

Theo Rutter

Hello all,

Im using a DJI Mini2 for mapping missions whilst holding an Infrared camera. The total weight of the camera and its accessories is around 130g, so it's well into the payload range and subsequently lowers battery flight time to around 14 minutes.

The problem Im having is I can fly the drone around happily in a manual model in DroneLink (able to achieve the desired flight altitude of 120m etc.), but once I try to play the planned mission, I get the error 'Automatic Control Interrupted. The drone must remain in P-GPS Flight Mode for automatic control.'

When I try to fly the drone with the DJI app, I am limited to 30m altitude and 50m distance until I deactivate the payload mode option. There is no payload option in Dronelink, I wonder if it is this thats causing me problems?

Any and all help appreciated.

Both the Dronelink app (Kernel 4.9.3) and the drone and controller firmware are up to date, running on Android.

I thought about putting this in 'bug reports' but Im not sure if its a bug as such.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Theo. I have never used DL with any payload on either my MA2 or MM so not sure if it will work or not. Even though it may be able to be done manually It may be due to the fact that the DL app runs the mission based on several settings to include the ascent rate. So if at any point the drone cannot satisfy these values during the mission it may fail. I’m not sure which setting may help if at all but I’d go into the global settings at top of plans mission card and change the values. I’d lower the ascent rate which is 10ms to a lower rate like maybe 2ms. I’d also try changing the V. Acceleration rate to about the same. Not sure if one or the other may help but worth a try.

    HI Mike,

Thanks very much for the reply.

Yes that makes sense, I'll give that a try.

    A little update.

Unfortunately I'm still having the same problem.

My best guess is that as the drone stops at exactly 30m altitude, it is being limited by the app seeing that the drone has a payload and therefore restricting motion to the DJI defined 30m altitude or 50m distance limits.

On both the DJI Fly app and the Dronelink app its possible to happily fly the drone around manually, up to around 120m altitude and more than a kilometer range, but as soon as automated flight is engaged, the drone rises as usual before hitting 30m and warning 'Max altitude reached'.

Do the admin have any knowledge of this? Is there a way to turn on/off payload mode in DroneLink?

No way to turn it on or off in DL. Since you said you can fly manually with DL app then try flying it to the altitude first and then start the mission from there. Mission don’t need to be started from on the ground. That’s about all the tricks I have in my toolbox Theo. Lol…

Also tried that approach, being at the flightplan altitude before hitting 'Play', unfortunately the same error.

Appreciate the help Mike, I think the ability to affect the payload controls is something thats missing from Dronelink and leading to my issues.

Ok Theo. Maybe DL can but it may be a DJI SDK limitation. Enjoy Sir.
