Failing to execute a 2 Orbit mission at Intervals 3 and 5 Seconds Each

Daniel Snyder

I am failing to execute a 2 Orbit mission (Air 2S / Galaxy 22+), with the First Orbit set to 3 second photo intervals and the Second Orbit set to 5 second intervals.

I am getting No warning messages in the mission planner (The mission preview also shows the locations photos will be taken at in both orbits) but in actually flight I get these Failure messages and the mission halts..

For reference here is the Stills Setup.     Also Note each Orbit has set Automatic-Capture = Photos.

I  must be missing a setup step here.

Hey Daniel. Please share the plan. It’s too hard to know without it. Also the mission preview cannot report any errors like this since it has no way of knowing which drone. The JPEG error could be just one of those strange things which pop with no rhyme or reason. I’ve rarely had errors but sometimes I’ve gotten a ISO 100 error or something else which fails when it obviously is correct. I power down everything and it works without an issue. Was it just once or is it repeatable ?

Only possible thing I can see is you didn’t add the “Photo Type” to Interval which should be added along with the interval time. Not absolutely sure but it may be reporting the JPEG error because of this. Some commands must be included and some must be in the proper order or you can get errors. The mission preview can’t report many of them as I mentioned so the only way to test it is to execute the mission. Can’t hurt to try it and see if it works. If it is set up correctly then as I mentioned powering down everything as it states in that error message usually gets it working. If for some strange reason it keeps reporting that error and it fails then DL may need to look into why. I have a feeling it will work but running it is the only way to know.

    OK,  thanks Mike.

So Good News and Bad News.

Bad News - I made a copy of your mission with the Photo Types included.  Same errors - no change.

Good News - I went looking on the screen and found that the Photo settings onboard the drone were set to JPEG + DNG.  (Likely defaulting in from a previous mission setting).  So I changed it to JPEG only on the screen.  Reran your mission and voila!  no errors.    But now that means the setting I supplied "Camera Photo File Format = JPEG" was not executing in my Stills Setup Component.  The confusion seems to be the drone setting is JPEG  + DNG, but the DL Command for JPEG not taking effect.

Lastly I went back to my original mission (the one without “Photo Type” = Interval) and tried to run it with the drone set to JPEG only.   No Good - still got those errors.  You your advice to insert “Photo Type” = Interval was the key to get to the real bug.   The command for "Camera Photo File Format" not executing.

Thanks Mike - valuable feedback!   Maybe the DL experts can now check on the bug!

Yeah that’s strange and it does seem to be a bug at this point. I can try tomorrow to see if I have any issues with my drone. I don’t have the Mini 3 but the app works the same overall so I’m curious to see if I get the same problem with my setup. If it works for me then it is possible there may be a bug the DJI SDK for the Mini 3. That would not be the first time. At least for now you know not to add that command and as long as you don’t change it in the DJI Fly app you’re good to go.

I used the good old Air2S, so it ought to be the tried and true MSDK 4.  Thanks  Mike.

Can you please create a command only mission with just the command(s) that are failing and try running it on your desk (it won’t take off but always a good idea to remove the props). If it doesn’t work, please share it here and we will test it.

Photo Only Mission Here rerun today

    Notes:

     - File Format before testing was JPEG + RAW onboard the Air2S.

     - Verified File Format was changed to JPEG onboard Drone this time (no RAW) after executing Photo Only commands.

     - No Undefined File Error this time.  Mission Accomplished.  Pure camera commands mission worked.

    - ReRan Orbit mission with File format on drone = JPEG and RAW as per yesterday's settings.

Must have been a false negative test on my part.  Key to success was what Mike mentioned - set "Photo Type = Interval" as part of the camera settings before Orbit components.

Opps, my mistake on which drone. My age is showing Lol….. Anyway, you always need the photo type along with the interval time otherwise that will fail. Think of it this way. No different then when using the DJI app you select photo, then interval (timed shot) then the interval time. Three commands needed for intervals. Ive seen this happen several times over the years. Sometimes it’s the simple things. Enjoy
