Every battery change Dronelink now requires restarting DJI Fly first

Daniel Snyder

Hello,

Something recently may have changed.

Recently I've noticed I have to shut down Dronelink after each battery change and restarting with Dji Fly first, then switch back to Dronelink to continue the mission.    The failure message in Dronelink App is "Cannot takeoff in a no-fly zone".

I am in LAANC 300' zone, so it seems like DL is not remembering the DJI authorization I provided and tells me i can't take off.  DJI Fly however remembers, and does not prompt me for authorization after each battery change.

Is this a new or intended behavior?

I can't recall ever having to restart with DJI Fly app after EVERY battery change, just to remind DL I have authorization still from the DJI geo system.

This problem exists now when flying the both the Dronelink and Dronelink DJI app.

Hi Daniel. I noticed you edited the original post from a few days ago which didn’t get a reply. I can supply some information which may help. Check the thread I’m sending which discusses the problems with the DJI unlocks. Surprised yours is even working. The older drones which used the Go app had ability to load the unlock to the aircraft or the app possibly due to onboard capability of those drones. The Fly app can only save to the app. So then it would make sense since after shutting down the aircraft and powering back up the app would need to be opened again. Unless Jim has some newer info I’m not sure what else you can do.

Thanks Mike,   I know this will sound strange, but I've only recently seen DL telling me I can't fly after battery swaps in a LAANC zone.  Previously it would just take right off again.  Maybe there is a [authorization?] parameter that stopped coming across to DL recently?

Understood Daniel. Not sure there is a DL authorization parameter as you mentioned since it is the DJI SDK which controls this as stated in the other thread. I know nothing about how the software works so just going by the posting by Jim. If it’s just a FAA restricted zone without a DJI unlock required then it should work as usual since those don’t have anything to do with DJI’s unlocks. Not all FAA restricted zones have a DJI GEO locked zone. Sounds like in your situation it is a DJI GEO locked zone which you got an unlock for. So for now it seems like you will need go through the extra time closing and opening both apps back and forth. Sorry I can’t help more but maybe Jim can chime in and at least give an idea if they are even considering doing all the magic with their code writing. I know they don’t usually give any estimate for implementing new features but maybe it is in their list of new features implementation. Best wishes….

Nothing has changed on our side.

Agreed,  but can you confirm the way it used to work was the way I described - that no DJI App restarts needed to happen after each battery swap?   If so something changed on the DJI side and that's where we'll take the issue.   Thanks,  Daniel

We have never tested this functionality (both MSDKv4 or MSDKv5) so I can’t really comment on it from first-hand experience. Barry and others seem to have been able to get unclocks to work in the way you described, and it was my understanding like all the other drone / camera settings, they carried over via the firmware.
