Mavic 3 Thermal

Michael Porritt

Hello Everyone,

We have a client looking at completing feral animal surveys on their land which we plan on using the Mavic 3 enterprise Thermal with.

My question is can we record both the RGB and Thermal videos at the same time with dronelink? I know you can operate the drone with the split screen normally, but we want to be able to do this while using Dronelink to do the flight control.

Is this possible and if so, what settings do we need to use for this.

Cheers,

Michael

Split screen (live preview) is possible but you can’t record both at the same time AFAIK.

You can if using the fly app. I have one for a job today. If I get time I'll try it out. No promises.

Apologies for the delay - it's been a hectic few days.

I was able to fly a quick test mission in between the rain and can confirm that a Mavic 3T WILL record both RGB and Thermal photos at the same time.

Good point. If I get a moment I'll try to check it out. Only been using it for photos.

Thanks Guys - appreciate the effort.

The reason for the videos is due to the mission being species identification and population estimation. Much easier to do with a video rather than stills.

Hopefully we can use Dronelink for the mission planning and flights, much rather use this than the DJI app.

I know the DJI app can record both simultaneously, but unsure if the mission plan allows video capture - I have the M3E and as far as I can tell I can only capture photos with the planner.

    Cheers,

    Michael

I can now confirm that the M3T WILL take both RGB and Thermal VIDEO at the same time in a mission.

I can forward the video samples if you like.

Thanks Barry, really appreciate your help with this.
What settings did you end up using in dronelink to record both videos? I imagine the side by side setting was enabled in the DJI app, then did you just choose video as the capture media in dronelink?

    Cheers!

    Hi Michael Porritt

Yes.  Exactly that.  I set up how I wanted it in the Pilot app, and then just told Dronelink to record video.

    Thanks Barry.

I would love to see the demo of the side by side video. Can you email them to me if you cant post them here?

Just to recap with this for anyone else.

We just received out M3T drone and tested a few missions.

The Mapping mission works well with video and it will record Thermal, RGB and side by side all at the same time.

However as far as I can tell, you must first log into the DJI App on the controller and setup everything in there first. This includes thermal spectrum, side by side, link zoom etc. Then you need to force quit the DJI app and launch Dronelink. You should see the options selected come up with the camera preview as soon as you connect the drone. If you don't, you need to open the DJI app again and ensure it's all selected properly.

You need to do this every time the drone is turned off, so after each battery change you need to reopen the DJI app and select your settings again. Then force quit the DJI app before continuing the mission.

Unless there is a way to save the settings in the DJI app so it auto starts with the same settings each time, this needs to be done.

Hello Barry,  I have a similar request and may need your guidance.   How can I take 2 separate photos (one Thermal and one RGB - not "SBS" side-by-side) from a waypoint or from a command in Dronelink.  Your hint it can be done is tantalizing.  Anyway my use case is to take a thermal and RGB photo from 5 locations around each power pole in a Feeder line after the recent hurricanes here.   Executing a component that capture the RGB and Thermal photos together would be great.  Thanks,  Daniel.

You have to set the camera to capture both before you start in the pilot 2 app.  Then run the mission as normal.

Thanks Barry.  Thought so.  (Just rely on the prior Pilot 2 settings).
