solved: on-the-fly follow mode not working (anymore?)
Hi there,
i used the on-the-fly follow mode before and it worked. I even was part of the Beta Testing back then.
Now I tried this mode again recently after quite some time. It does not work at all for me anymore:
I start my drone, fly it to the follow spot manually and set up the whole mission in the app (also same as described in the tutorial) and then press the play button, but my drone only flies into a certain height (maybe around 4m high) and then does exactly nothing else.
Drone: Mini 2
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S23Ultra
Dronelink Version 4.8.0
Any clu why this is so? Can i share more details somehow?
Kind regards, Oliver

So it doesn't move when you move
Exactly.
In the DL app settings I believe you need the distance reference set to the device since the devices GPS is what the drone actually follows. If set to home that is a fixed point so it won’t work. Give that a try.
Thank you, Mike.
I just tried that out. It was set to "Home". I changed that to "device". Unfortunately it didn't help.
I made a screen recording of my try today morning. Please find it here:

Ok just watched the video, and I think you may be possibly to low at 5.4 meters, I have a thought in my mind that the 10M horizontal distance also applies to height, and if you don't meet the minimum height it won't run, so give it a try at over 10M height and horizontal
Hi Martin, thank you. I will try at next occasion, but i think i did another try where the drone was further away.
I also think about completely uninstalling DL from my Phone and reinstalling it. Maybe the authentication is buggy (i have a new smartphone and DL might have been transfered here via SmartSwitch).
Will keep you posted.

Hi Oliver Paulus, I got a chance to try it out this afternoon and can indeed confirm that it is broken, screen recording of my test here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CT7bIKHh1sQ
Hi Martin,
wow, OK, thank you for checking and letting me know.
Do you also use a quite new phone? I had a strange behaviour before in 2021 with my then brandnew S21 (there was an issue with the CPU Samsung used in the European phones, as far as i remember, luckily quickly fixed by Dronelink developers)
Cheers, Oli
Oliver this was a quick test using my LG V50, which is the phone I normally use when using follow mode, its a little less conspicuous than my default device (Galaxy Tab 7FE)
May Jim McAndrew or one of the other members of the team can take a look (Last time I used it prior to this was august 23rd, and it was fine then) so that was using Dronelink 4.7.1.269
Has anyone the last versions APK before 4.8.0?
Oliver Paulus, Dronelink doesn't work quite like that as the main Kernel also upgrades, so the kernel itself is at 4.8.0 then the app build is 4.8.0(270) whereas the previous that this was working was 4.7.1(269) as mentioned in my previous post, Jim McAndrew could probably explain it a lot better than me
Hi Martin,
ah, OK.
Pity, i am on vacation in a nice spot and would like to use the follow-me mode, but i guess the issue fix will be after the end of my vacation ;-)
Cheers, Oliver
Hey Oliver, just finished testing on my mini 2/android combo on 4.8.0 to confirm yours and Martin's findings and it is indeed broken. We are working to fix this as soon as possible, sorry this had to happen while you are on vacation!
Hi Nicolas Roberts, cheers for the confirmation, look forward to the fix
Hi Nicolas,
thank you for the confirmation.
Good luck at fixing!
And there is really no fallback possible, as Martin described in his last comment here?
I subscribed into beta Testing again in the hope I could get the next (Beta) update ASAP.
If else I could help you testing it (e.g. if you send me the APK right after the fix), i am happy to help.
KR, Oli
The issue is fixed and pushed out now - Dronelink 4.8.1 (272). Thank you both for your help identifying this issue.
Thank you, Nicolas, for this speedy fix. I will try it out tomorrow! 👍 Cheers, Oli
Cheers Nicolas, if the weather allows, will give it a go tomorrow
Just checked it out, and is working a dream again👍
Yes, can confirm that too.
Tested with my Samsung S23.
Lovely, thank you... 👍
