Timeline for DJI Air 3 Support? Most recommended drone as of 8/23?

Peter Porter

Hello,

I have mainly worked in the Arducopter/Micasense photogrammetry world, and am now wanting to start mapping with a consumer level RGB drone.

The DJI Air 3 has the battery life/camera quality/price that I want. Is there any word from DJI about when an SDK (or if an SDK) will be released for it?

I am between the Mini 3 Pro (with RC-N1 and Android device), Air 2s (with my iPhone), or the Air 3 (which I assume will also be Android-only). As the saying goes, you don't know what you don't know, so I understand there's a lot going on in the background. I do know that Dronelink has a huge opportunity to gain more customers like me who are eyeing the Air 3 as a perfect, low-cost mapping platform.

Thank you for your support, I look forward to using your drone-control product!

Peter Porter. My suggestion is to use a drone which is already fully supported, time tested and has been proven to work great with either Android OS or IOS. A2S, Mini 2, MA2 or even older drones like M2P or Phantom series. Especially if using professionally it would be better for it to work always instead of constant problems costing you time, money and headaches. The mapping will work about the same as far as the end results as many here use the Mini 2 and others. If plan is set up correctly and the processing of images is good then not a lot of difference. Also even if they do build the SDK for the Air 3 it has usually taken about 6 to 9 months or more for DJI to build and release it. At least that’s what I’ve seen over the last three years. So buying the Air 3 and waiting to see if they even do build it would not be worth it for me. Some thoughts. Good luck.

Thank you all for your feedback! I have been looking at all my options, and I think the Air 2s may be the way to go. The only reason I balk at purchasing it is the reduced flight time. At best, I think I could expect a 25 minute flight. Hence why I asked about the Air 3.

But you guys are right, 6-9 months/numerous problems in Beta might be too long to wait.

    Thanks!
