Sharing maps and 3D models using public WebODM
I've seen a number of people asking how to share maps and models created in WebODM with clients - so I thought I would put a tutorial together on how to set it up in the cloud. Not really a 5 minute Friday at about 12 minutes, but not too bad.
It does get a little technical, but should be fine for most people that can follow instructions.
Here's the video

I hope you find it helpful. Feel free to let me have any feedback or questions.
If you find it a little our of your comfort zone, but still something you would be interested in, let me know as we do offer consulting.

Very cool tutorial. Very easy to follow.
What are the 'steps' to upload outside information to the webODM?
Cant upload any outside info (ortho and point cloud), give me always an error when try to visualize.
Hi João Marques
I'm sorry - I'm not sure I quite understand the problem.
Once I have created or uploaded, the map, ortho and point cloud all work without a problem. What is the error that you get?
One thing to consider - if you are using download and upload to move from one instance to another, be sure to upgrade to the latest instance on both so that they are using the same software. I have had problems where the sending instance was older than the receiving one and I could see nothing.
If you're still stuck let me know what error you are getting, or try the WebODM forum here https://community.opendronemap.org/c/webodm/6
Barry,
Sorry for my low skilled english.
I'm trying to upload an Orthomap and a Cloud Point (zipped) done in agisoft.
The errors are:
Any idea what could be?
Hi,
As far as I know the import only works on files that were created in WebODM - I don't think you can just zip up files and expect them to load. The system is expecting a very specific format.
It might be possible to fool the system by creating a zip file that is in the same format. You could do an export from WebODM and then explore that zip file to see what the needs are. Or, post the question to the forum link I sent earlier and maybe someone there can help.
Have you looked at https://dronedb.app/ - it seems to be exactly designed for this purpose - sharing aerial assets? It might be easier for end user to use since there's virtually no "techie" skills needed (which I like :-))

In WebODM's own FAQs (https://webodm.net/faq) they still say that the method I provided is currently the best option. But they do say to keep an eye on the project that you mentioned.
I have tried it in the past and, while it worked, I found it a bit clunky and often it wouldn't show the 3D models. At the moment, it feels like something that isn't quite ready for prime time.
It also has a limit of just 2GB for the free version and once you start with their monthly fees, I'm not sure that it will really be any cheaper than using something like AWS.
That said, it is made by the same people and they continue to improve it so, perhaps, at some point it will be easier, better and cheaper to go with that so it's worth keeping an eye on.
Barry Houldsworth - appreciate you took the time to document and post. I did something similar about a year ago with WebODM. Well, maybe not exactly, but my use case was I wanted to run a public facing instance of WebODM on a Windows 2022 Server. Got it working, but remembered I had a few bumps along the way. Far from perfect, but does let me give customers an account to view the project in-skin of WebODM at least.
Thanks for clarifying Barry - as usual your videos and info is spot on! Much appreciated!

You probably have figured this out already but if you go into the administration section, there is an amount of customization you can do to make it more relevant for your brand - e.g. change the name, logo and theme.
Good reminder. I tried that a bit and messed up my colors so bad I had reset to default. : )
