iPad with Dronelink
Hi
I'm going to purchase a new iPad Air to use with Dronelink. Do I need to have the cell version or will the standard WI-FI one work fine?
Thanks

No, unless you are planning to use Follow which works based on GPS, which the wifi only versions do not have.
Yes
FWIW: The indicator dot for location of your RC can be incorrectly off and moving around the screen with the Wifi only version. It does not affect the running of your mission, your drone home point, etc., but can be a little disconcerting when you look at it while flying!
Just some additional info Keith.
I use a WiFi only iPad Mini 5. As David said, your devices location on the map may be off but not needed to fly with DJI app or run missions with DL. If I need to adjust any DL plan on location I use Hot Spot from my iPhone to change anything in the plan. It Works great and cheaper than getting a Cellular IPad with GPS which is more money. Then there is the additional monthly charges if you want to add a cellular plan to it. Unless you will be using it for a specific reason which needs GPS It’s a matter of personal preference.
If I’m wanting to use the Follow mode, I just use my iPhone since I don’t need to control it and the screen size doesn’t really matter. That’s the Only time I need to use my iPhone with GPS. Other then that I always use my IPad and the larger Screen size is a major issue for me.
Good luck and enjoy. Mike……….
Hi guys, thanks very much for this helpful info. I don't think I need a cellular iPad as can use my iPhone with hot spot if required. Looking forward to a larger screen size :-)
Does the latest iPad Air or standard new iPad work ok with DL?
