Is this theoretically possible?
I'm looking for someone that can help with something.
It involves having 2 aircraft with RTK positioning. (For now, the DJI M300 is what I'm using but if there's another platform I can use that is fine).
Can the aircraft be made to "track" each other very accurately in real time? (there can be latency as measurements don't have to be taken while moving).
I need one to be able to point a light or laser at the other over long distances (40km +) to see if it can be received by the other and then note the exact positions of each aircraft.
I know with Autopilot we could track the GPS position of a phone or tablet and have the aircraft follow / film. I'm thinking this is a somewhat similar routine, however I don't know if it can work over such long distances? (perhaps a VPN or something over a cellular connection?) What will the precision of the payload aim be?
If you have any insight into this topic and would like to help develop something please send me a message and I can tell you a little more about the purpose and huge marketing opportunity.

Not sure how close the laser needs to be to the receiving target, but my guess is not practical, but it is theoretically possible. Dronelink does not have the ability to select a second drone as a focus target right now though.
Thanks for the quick response. The ultimate would be if we could use stock hardware, however I'm willing to try other (possibly wider beam) solutions so the precision doesn't have to be as tight. I'm aware it's not a feature right now for dronelink, however if this is doable and works, I have a huge client that could potentially require this all over the world. It's currently being done with humans flashing lights at each other using climbing gear so it seems like an obvious drone solution is possible. Let me know if you're willing to have a discussion about the possibility of developing a routine for this or if you know someone with the skills.
You can email sales@dronelink.com with more details about the size of the opportunity (revenue, # of flights / minutes, etc).
