A Few Questions for manual flight mode

AJ Tratt

Hey there,

I've recently purchased this app for my son to use with his Mavic Mini. He needs to be able to fly with a tablet as he has eyesight issues. Being 32bit, the DJI Fly app doesn't support his Samsung Tablet.

I understand the app is more geared around more experienced users but I was hoping someone could help me understand/locate some basic functions.
This is all only in manual flight mode:
1. Will the RTH button work on the controller?
2. Is their an auto takeoff option?
3. Can you change the flight mode setting?

Thank you in advance to anyone thay assists. :)

    Fantastic. Thanks a bunch Jim.

I'm sure he can figure out the takeoff.

I'm going to assume the RTH altitude is set via the DJI Fly app.

Sorry, Jim but I disagree on the RTH button. With my MA2/iPad Mini5 and the Dronelink app in manual flight mode, I was unable to make RTH button work correctly yesterday. The drone would land in place but not return to home when pushing the controller RTH button.

Flying my pre-loaded missions, The aircraft returned to home perfectly after completing the missions. Hope this is helpful.

DJI does not allow third-party apps like Dronelink to override the functionality of the hardware RTH button. The button does work activate DJI's RTH functionality (which is all onboard and controlled by their firmware). I think your confusion is around how their RTH function works. When the drone is within 20m of the home point, they chose for some irksome reason to make the drone land in place. You can compare this behavior both inside and outside of Dronelink by just trying RTH from different distances. It is super annoying and we don't understand why they made this decision but it has been this way for years.

Thanks for the explanation, Jim. Now that you say it, it sounds familiar. I was doing my manual flight testing very close to the home point so it all makes sense. I rarely use RTH in my normal flights so had not experienced it before.
Dronelink is an outstanding product that adds greatly to the value of my aircraft!

I agree. If it’s that close I don’t use RTH anyway. If within about 160 feet it will not ascend to set RTH altitude but just move horizontally back to home point which I do Like. I’ve never tried to activate when on only 60 feet away since it’s so close but I have heard this same issue. It is strange.

Tried it again today when the aircraft was a few hundred feet away and it worked perfectly, landing within 2” of the takeoff location.

    Forest,

Yes pressing RTH button will work a few hundred feet away from original HP however,  close in to within, 60 feet or so, and it won't. It will auto land where it is. won't ascend and do "its thing". That can be a problem depending on what's below.
