How to get smooth descent along side of hill??
Hello from Italy,
I am trying to get a smooth as possible flight over this hill and then over to this contruction sight. I have put various markers but the flight moves up and down depending on the terrian below. How could I make this smoother? I have tried with curved interpolation but it seems to get worse. Any help would be appreciated.
Ciao

Jim explained this awhile ago using the AGL function which uses ESRI data. The AGL isn’t every point along the path but every 30 meters of horizontal distance traveled. So about every 100 feet with any hills or valleys may make it more difficult to be extremely accurate. Especially if there are steep inclines or declines along the path.
I’ve used AGL on several plans just to see how it worked and overall it is fairly accurate. I tried one of my plans with both ATL and AGL is to see how different it would perform. The AGL worked good but I live in a rural area and it has roiling hills all around here with a lot of elevation changes. When I use ATL then I need to put markers at points where I know the elevation is higher or lower. Then either descend or ascend accordingly at that location. It takes more work and I use the mission simulator and eventually Google Earth Pro to run the KMZ file to see how it looks. That program is amazing for pre-running a mission prior to actual flight. Then I adjust from there if anything looks like it’s way too high up or too low. If running a mission with slight elevating changes then I’m sure it would work better. I’ve tried some markers in certain areas like you did on your plan using AGL. However, I’m not sure if it makes any difference. Maybe Jim can answer that.......
I ran your mission with Google Earth Pro. I don't know how you want the finished product to look but, to me I think it looks great overall. You may not need all those altitude markers.
Beautiful Country.
Hope this helps. Good luck. Mike........
Here is a link to a post on here about AGL.

Hi Charlie. I spent about 30 minutes on your plan and changed just a few things. I removed half of the altitude markers and spread them out a bit. After running it with Goggle Earth Pro a few times I adjusted Altitude markers 7 and 8 to 115 feet which looks good. It was a bit close to the hill towards the bottom. If it looks good overall then you can try a few tweaks if wanted and see how it runs on Google Earth Pro. I changed the name just so you can easily tell which one is my altered plan and which one is yours.
Enjoy, Mike.......

Ciao Charlie,
another example could be mine: https://app.dronelink.com/raffaello-di-martino/vicino-casa/plan/V66XpIucZnRfCGtiRINP/1yBWzW7D3eJH0vhVx6bv

Ciao Mike!! Thanks for the feedback. I have played around with the markers and have managed to get it smoother.
Grazie Raffaello!! Molto bello il video.
👍🏼 I kept it the same as your plan Just with the few small changes. Obviously you can add, change or completely change it to something else.
Enjoy Charlie. Lol......
